Sammy's Gourmet Deli & Gyro — Restaurant in Oxford

I saw that there was a new gyro place in town and i got excited as Volta is always so busy. I saw the prices on the google maps pictures of the place and thought they were super reasonable, wow i thought, in oxford? No price gouging?!? And legit Yemeni food?

So I decided to go check it out. Big mistake. Prices on the menu were much more expensive than on the google maps pics. So 10 dollars for a gyro and a couple bucks extra for a small fry, still better than zorbas. Drinks were all single serve you get in the convenience store. I got it to go.

Got to work, ate the food. The fries were super crispy and lightly seasoned waffle fries with little meat in them. The oil they used for the fries seemed a little over used. I actually started itching and got super inflamed from eating them. Not a great look. I am not allergic to anything.

The gyro was also sub par. The meat looked like it was the frozen gyro meat you can get from Walmart. The tziki sauce had no flavor. It did have pickles on it which i thought was cool, but over all a 2 out of 5 on the gyro and 1/5 on the fries. The guys who cooked it were nice and let me know how the order was going which is why i'm giving the review a 2 and not a 1.

Sammy’s Deli is a must-visit for anyone looking for fresh, delicious food with generous portions. From the moment I walked in, the staff was friendly and welcoming, making the experience even better. The food itself was top-tier—my sandwich was packed with plenty of meat, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. You can really tell they use fresh ingredients.

One of the highlights was the fries. They don’t skimp on the serving size—you get a generous portion, perfectly crispy and seasoned just right. Combined with the hearty sandwich, it was a meal that truly hit the spot.

The store was also impressively clean, with well-maintained tables and a neat, organized setup. It’s always nice to eat in a place that takes cleanliness seriously.

My only small complaint is that they only offer bottled sodas. A fountain drink machine would be a great addition and would lower the cost of a drink.
