Funkys Pizza & Daiquiri Bar — Restaurant in Oxford

It’s taken me a long time to write this review and I look forward to the day (if it comes) when I get to change it.

Funkys has undergone a huge renovation/expansion that allows for more customers than ever. Good for business, bad for customers. Now Funky’s is just like every other XL college bar and nowhere near what it used to be.

On my last visit, I had paid cover and had a tab open but had to leave and come right back. My family and I had ordered dinner and they were waiting on me. When I got back to Funkys, I was told I could not come back in under any circumstance, and had to wait in the very long line even though I had paid for dinner inside. They claimed “fire code.” Wish they were paying attention to other laws and regulations— maybe there wouldn’t have been so many kids under 21 drinking inside, but I digress.

Someone was letting people in the side door, clearly violating this “fire code.” When I asked this woman about it, she physically shoved me out of the door and told me she was the owners wife and could do whatever she wanted. My friends and family were so appalled, as were multiple onlookers. The owner’s wife then went and got security to kick out my family inside and keep me from getting in- at all.

In my original email to the owner/staff, I acknowledged it was a game weekend and things were crazy, and all I wanted was an apology from this woman who treated me (a paying customer) so poorly. It never came and I am still waiting to hear from her.

So not only has Funky’s lost its charm, you run the risk of potentially being assaulted by staff just because. It really does make me so sad to type that out.

There are many other bars in Oxford, I suggest you give those a try before...

Visiting Oxford with our Scout Troop and we decided to get pizza, so I asked a friend who is familiar with Oxford what is the best pizza, he didn't hesitate telling me FUNKYS! OK, sounds good. I was going to feed 10-15 so we wanted to do takeout of a local place and found out this place was located on the square - was not about to take 10-15 kids with only 4 adults on the square in a college town on a Saturday night. So take out it is. My friend told me to ask for Peyton; Peyton totally rocked it. Order taken, let me know when it was ready and helped me to the car. We tried the Frat Boy, Mosquito, Chicken/bacon/ranch, the cliff, and a large cheese bread. DANG FINE! The meat lover pizzas weren't too greasy, the chicken/bacon/ranch wasn't too ranchy, everything was delicious. The crust was thin but had the perfect amount of chewy, it wasn't a crispy thin crust. By far my favorite was the Mosquito, the addition of the sweet baby rays to the frat boy gave the perfect touch of sweetness. Highly recommend. Next time I'll brave the dine in experience in my old-ness, without kids, and have a daiquiri, they looked delicious! Service was...

I am 54 years old and I tried to enter Funkys to meet my wife and a few others. I was wearing a baseball hat backwards and a young boy met me at the door with the worst of manners and said to me that I would have to turn my hat around. I asked him for what reason and he said that it was just there policy so I said really, its a bar and he smarted off to me and said if you don’t like it then you need to leave so I reluctantly turned my hat around and proceeded to enter and he stopped me again and told me that I needed to throw my water cup away. So once again I asked why and he told me that I couldn’t bring outside beverages into there bar so I turned around and left texting my wife that I would not be joining her. After leaving I thought about it and no where near the front door were any of these rules published. I will never be returning to Funkys.
