The restaurant came highly recommended from locals that know my tastes and know an eating establishment is a great way to set a visit to a new areas first impression since it was our introductionto Oxford, so after a long day of traveling we stopped in. For a Thursday evening it was relatively crowded, a few larger tables of 6+. Server was pleasant to start. We expressed we had traveled all day, 2 in our small party of 3 were starving, I wasn't feeling well and didn't have a big appetite (which i even told our server why i wasnt ordering alot), really just craving a pitcher of water and some veggies. So, 2 entrees were ordered and a side of spinach for me. H20 all around (again, travel lag, needing hydration). It took about 1/2 hr to get our food, no big deal. I did notice that several tables around us were ordering drinks, appetizers etc. And we're very attentively taken care of. Our food came and my spinach side was literally coated in so much pepper i had to spit it out in my napkin. I started choking, sucked down the little bit of water i had left, then grabbed my friends and finished hers. After having to ask the hostess to find our server, politely asked to get my spinach wo pepper, which she agreed that she could even see the massive excess (think lid of shaker fell off) and some more water, there was nothing done with our table until she brought our check. I walked to the bar about 15 minutes later, asked the bartender who was finishing putting drinks on another servers tray if he could refill my water. I kid you not, he looked at the server with a tray of drinks ready to go out and asked her if she would get me a refill. I honestly couldn't believe it. I said forget it. A few minutes later he stomps to our table, irritated and refills my water. Mind you, I really started watching service around us, not an alcoholic beverage ran dry. The other 2 in our party had long finished their dinners and our server was still nowhere to be found. I still hadn't received my spinach and now i really felt ill and it was getting to late to even attempt to find something else to eat before checking into our hotel near the square. Finally I walked back to the hostess to ask to speak to the manager . A minute later our server comes with a cold side of spinach and to go box and our check. No apologies, just "we took the $5 off your bill". OK. It was not about the $5. What it became after that was they literally made us feel like we were ZERO of a priority as guests. I get we didn't have a big bar tab or order 3 of the most expensive items on the menu... but the next day when the rest of our party came, maybe we would have. Maybe we were not "regulars" but we could have been. I doubt that much of a thought will go into a review from an outsider who had high hopes for Southern...
Read moreBoure in Oxford, MS, presents a cozy and inviting atmosphere that sets the stage for a dining experience that can be both familiar and explorative. The menu choices, from the BBQ Shrimp to the gumbo, showcase a flair for Southern culinary staples, while other dishes like the brisket shepherd's pie add a unique twist to traditional comfort food.
The brisket shepherd's pie stands out as particularly noteworthy, with its rich flavors and hearty ingredients. However, there's room for improvement, as the peas and brisket were overcooked, and the potential elevation of the dish with smoked brisket was a missed opportunity. On a positive note, the mashed potatoes and shiitake mushrooms exceeded expectations, offering depth and texture that were above average. The fried spinach was also a standout, providing a unique taste and texture that was enjoyable on its own, though its pairing with the shepherd’s pie might not have been the perfect match.
The beer menu at Boure is commendable for its variety, catering well to beer aficionados with a selection of good brews. However, the lack of descriptions for the beers can be a bit challenging for visitors not familiar with the options, potentially detracting from the overall dining experience as it requires guests to use their phones to look up each beer.
Overall, Boure offers a solid dining experience with some dishes that really shine and others that show potential for refinement. It’s a great spot for those looking to enjoy a good meal in a nice setting, although a little attention to detail could enhance the experience...

My sister and I went here for dinner and drinks on a Thursday night to celebrate my graduation. This is a walk-in restaurant only, so we were unable to make a reservation. There was a line when we arrived, and we were told there would be an hour wait. We said that was okay and passed the time at a local frozen yogurt shop next door. After an hour and fifteen minutes, I went in to make sure everything was okay and was told that tables were just staying longer than expected, which was perfectly understandable. After an hour and a half of waiting, all of the people who had been in line before us had been seated. We were waiting outside, and I glanced inside and saw two open tables on the floor. We decided to continue waiting. At the two hour mark, after watching the two empty tables remain open for thirty minutes and not being seated, we walked away. We didn't even make it off the square before they called us to tell us they had a table for us, which told me they had no reason to keep us waiting all of that time. I told them that we had left because of the empty tables, and I didn't receive an apology and was told to have a good night. My sister and I won't be back. It is a shame that a great restaurant operates this way. This is not the first poor service experience I have had at one of these related restaurants in Oxford (I have also had a few bad experiences at Big Bad Breakfast), so I am not sure if they are related. Just wanted to post and let people know. If there is a wait at all, you are better off going...
