My coworkers and I went to Chong’s for lunch today and it was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had. Right from the start, we were greeted with poor customer service that made us feel extremely uncomfortable.
Our waitress seemed unfamiliar with the menu, rejecting a substitution request that was clearly allowed per the menu itself. We ordered crab rangoon to share, which was not good — but we intended to pay for it anyway. When my coworker answered the waitress’s question about why we hadn’t eaten the appetizer with “it’s okay,” she responded with frustration and attitude, pressing to know what was wrong with it to which we did not entertain her attitude.
When taking our orders, she again showed irritation when a request was made to substitute rice for lo mein noodles and stated she can’t make that change to meals there- we understood and told her rice would be fine, to which we gained more attitude from the waitress. As our food came out, we noticed the quality was poor and barely ate. Instead of checking in politely with our table, the waitress loudly told the hostess, in front of the other customers that “nothing was good enough for our table” we “didn’t like our food or appetizer” and that we were “extremely rude.”
We had to ask twice for our bills and were ignored, and one coworker’s request for a to-go box was also ignored. When we went to pay, the hostess immediately made rude remarks, initiating confrontation with us. My coworker asked why she had an attitude, and the hostess continued making comments, even went so far as to mockingly laugh at us, inappropriately asked where we work, and told us the poor service we received today is a reflection of us. We collectively, have never had an altercation prior to this and are not confrontational people- we genuinely were seeking a decent meal on our lunch break (to which we were thoroughly disappointed).
Between the bad food, the hostile service, and the unprofessional behavior, this was an unacceptable experience. We did not tip and will never return. After eating, a few of us developed stomach aches — and after checking reviews, we learned this place has previously had a C rating from the health department for contaminated food and several past/ recent reports of bugs in food. Another table even mentioned they had an altercation with the staff at their last visit to the restaurant and received the same attitude we did today.
Bottom line: Poor food, worse service, and a toxic atmosphere. I do not recommend Chong’s to anyone. Always check...
Read moreI was referred to Chong's by a co-worker who had high praise, I was miserably disappointed. The parking lot was empty (should have been the first sign) the fish pond in the front was disgusting, the seat was completely destroyed to the point where my bum sank about a foot. All I of these thing should have clued me in. Looking at the buffet, it's about 25 steel bins holding the oiled goop, perched above burner cans. That's right, the same cans that your grandparents used that time the whole family had a gathering outside, absolutely atrocious! Finally the food, oh the food. We came in on a Sunday for their Sunday buffet. Everything was bland; the things that had taste, tasted awful. The egg roll was the girthiest thing I'd ever attempted to put in my mouth, my girlfriend as well, these things have 5 inches of diameter, if there are any guys out there making jokes I feel sorry for your partner, you are unnatural. Back to the food, I had to gotten this "bourbon chicken", typically a sweeter, but still well balanced chicken dish popular here in kentucky, not this however. The bourbon chicken at Chong's is like chicken drowned in unflavored gravy of some kind, then powdered sugar is added..... That's right, powdered sugar. My girlfriend's food was a gloopy oiled pig slop looking mix of what used to be vegetables and pork. They even messed up the rice, how do you mess up rice?! It didn't even taste like boiled rice, it was dry and tasteless almost like the grains are years old. Overall, do not go here, I understand the lack of Chinese in western Kentucky, but there are better things to eat around here than this. They get a star for the price but only barely.
I only had the buffet, I've got no comments on the made...
Read moreGo to this Chongs if you’re hankering for real Chinese food served up in a well-stocked and well-tended buffet. There are 16 hot trays plus a tall pile of super good egg rolls, and an outstanding wonton soup and another soup (maybe two?) comes with the meal. There are also two kinds of rice – white and stir fried - sweet and sour chicken, pressed chicken, General Tso’s spicy beef, green pepper beef, chicken wings with a sweet and spicy coating (some days they even have grilled chicken on a stick), donut holes, dishes with noodles, dishes I can’t remember the names of and fresh from the kitchen egg foo young (my favorite). The restaurant is large with lots of seating, and there is also a cozy bar. The buffet costs $6.99 Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and $8.99 on Sundays, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Chongs has a decent wine list, good iced tea or hot tea by the pot. All the food is wonderful, but their wonton soup is queen. I must confess, after scarfing up the tender wontons in the soup, that I drink from the bowl to savor every last drop of that soul warming broth. I tried but could find no fault whatsoever with the food; however, Chongs’ booths need attention: either the seats are too low or the tables are too high – the table comes to my chest, which makes for an uncomfortable...
