PetSmart's care for their pets is mediocre at best, and downright horrible at worst. I BEG YOU, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO LOTS OF RESEARCH ABOUT YOUR ANIMAL BEFORE YOU BUY IT!!!!!! LOOK THROUGH MANY DIFFERENT SOURCES, BECAUSE YOU WILL BE MISINFORMED BY THE STAFF!!!!!!!
Everything here is overpriced. You are better off buying theough Amazon or another store/website.
Dozens of fish are crowded into one 10 gallon tank. At any given time they will have multiple LARGE fish in said tank. Most often there are dead or sick fish floating at the top, and the other fish will be trying to eat it. There are no decorations in most of the tanks, or anything for the fish to hide in or under save for some colorful tank rocks at the bottom. The bettas they sell are often misnamed, and are kept in tiny cups. The bettas are usually blandly colored and their fins are torn. They sell bowls and small 2 gallon tanks as the main container to be used for these bettas, and do not say anything about the needed temperature or more to keep these fish the happiest possible.
In terms of reptiles, it's sadly not much better. When they DO have crested geckos, they at least seem to keep them decently. Leopard geckos, on the other hand, are given a single hide and fake plant per 3, or sometimes more, lizards. The leos (used in the reptile community, short for "leopard") have stick-thin tails, and occasionally you will even see one with metabolic bone disease from lack of calcium. The staff are misinformed about the care of leos and will tell you to buy one of their many horrible "starter kits", which are all wrong. The staff will suggest you put your leo on sand, which can and WILL impact your leopard gecko and cause severe sickness or even death. On occasion they have a chameleon. Again, you will be misinformed and told to buy the "chameleon starter kit", which is most often a 20 gallon "tall", when in reality a year or older chameleon will need a MINIMUM of 100+ gallons!!! The staff will fail to inform you that chameleons are NOT cuddle pets. It is DANGEROUS to hold your chameleon too often as their ribs break extremely easily. I stood and watched as a man and his children bought a chameleon and the starter kit, as the staff member said nothing in terms of care. I warned the man that he would need a much bigger tank than that very soon as the chameleon grows, to which he responded "Well she (in reference to the staff member) told me I needed this one, and I think she would know." It is sad to know that these animals will go home and be inadvertently mistreated due to ignorance.
Again, I beg you to research to keep your new pet happy...
Read moreNever again will I set even a single foot inside this store. We took our service dog to get groomed there, in a pinch instead of his regular one. After we got home we realized he wasn't acting himself. So, upon investigation we discovered a nasty wound on his neck that actually went down his chest. They refunded our groom and insisted on setting us up with a free future groom. They did eventually send us to their vet days later, who turned out to be a quack that hurt him even more instead of helping. We spent almost a week with him unable to work and hiding from everyone and everything. He barely ate. We were terrified he'd never work again. Even now he shakes in fear if we pass by or he hears the name and it used to be his favorite place in the world. The only thing the vet did do was to confirm that it was a clear and obvious case of being cut by the clippers. The managers at PetSmart all insisted that in their investigation that not only could they not see anything in the video but that also it was such an odd wound that they had no clue what it could even be. We have used PetSmart for years buying hundreds of dollars in pet food and the like each month. Helheim, we would spend a good hundred+ dollars every week almost or more. Never again. Beware. The pictures are from just after he was hurt and the wound only got worse. It wasn't until we were able to clean it that we could see it went down further and was draining and infected. Which makes us question the sanity of things. Please, be careful if you ever decide to use their services. It would be wise to avoid them, in our opinion. I implore you, don't let them hurt...
Read moreI had to write a review due to exceptional customer service that I receive at the Paducah location. I had a corn snake pass very suddenly at no fault of mine or Petsmart's and they offered a replacement, store card, or to reverse the transaction onto my bank card with no questions asked even after the 15 day guarantee. The animal just had a defect from the breeder. It was a very sad experience but Petsmart employees there are very caring and understanding. They go above and beyond to make your experience a positive one even in bad circumstances. I highly recommend this Petsmart. I do a lot of business here and have never had any issues here. They are awesome! I have positive relationships with both staff and managers here and they are always helpful with anything I need. I have other reptiles from here as well including a bearded dragon whom is very healthy and has wonderful temperament. I suggest not believing everything in the media about them over the years and they cannot be blamed for the breeders that they purchase from. Accidents happen in breeding and care of animals and that are just that accidents. They are not cold hearted as people make them out to be. I ask that you give them a chance and I hope you purchase animals here because they are awesome and...
