People always say there’s no good Mexican food in Florida—and unfortunately, they’re absolutely right. After seeing this place had a 4.4-star rating, we were genuinely hopeful that we’d found a hidden gem. But what we got was far from impressive. From the moment the food hit the table, the disappointment set in.
We ordered the shrimp cocktail and the “Coctel La Viagra,” expecting something fresh, flavorful, and authentic. Instead, what we got was a watery, overly sweet mess that tasted like someone mixed ketchup with sugar and called it a day. The shrimp didn’t taste fresh at all—it seemed like it had been dumped straight from a frozen bag into this syrupy cocktail mix without any seasoning or effort whatsoever.
There was no depth of flavor, no hint of lime, spice, or freshness you’d expect in a proper Mexican shrimp cocktail. It was just cloyingly sweet and flat-out unpleasant. Honestly, it was so bad we didn’t even finish it. How this place has glowing reviews is beyond me—are we eating at the same restaurant?
We also got the chicken quesadilla, it had all the flavoring but no flavoring at the same time. How does that even work? So bland.
The molcajete was alright but once you hit towards the bottom it was swimming the chorizo grease. Gross! #stomachache
To make matters worse, we left hungry. Taco Bell down the street—sadly—tastes better and feels more satisfying than the overpriced disappointment we had just endured. If this is considered “good” Mexican food in Florida, the bar is way too low.
Save your money and your appetite. This place is all hype...
Read moreMy wife and I decided to go out to dinner to celebrate our 52nd anniversary. All by ourselves - no kids! Decided to try Plaza Mexico. Friends had recommended it for us.
We arrived about 7:00 PM and they were very busy but we were seated right away. Mike, our Mexican server, was great. Mike not Michael, his Mother was a big Mike Tyson fan. We ordered dinner and got our annual small Margarita to toast. Mike also brought chips and salsa. Then a dish of Queso Blanco plus some fiery sauce for me.
After a bit our food came. My wife’s custom Burrito with shredded beef, no rice and covered with Queso. It was actually a pair of Burritos (as her norm) and she said it was delicious. My Enchilada plate came with four enchiladas, beef, chicken, bean and cheese. I also ordered a side of Frijoles to share. Mine was also excellent and even better with the hot salsa.
Needless to say we took half our meals home, they were huge plates. Then we wanted to try the Tres Leche cake. Mike was aware we were celebrating our 52nd and he brought us a complimentary slice! It was by far the best Tres Leche cake we had ever tasted! And right up at the top of any cakes. You must try it, so good.
Excellent food at reasonable prices and great service....
Read moreBeen wanting to try this place... We stopped in Sunday afternoon. Big place, looked clean, maybe a dozen people in the place. Huge, extensive menu! "Mateo" was our server. Wanted to take our drink order right away. We had never been there before and opening the menu there was a couple of pages of "Specialty" drinks, so I asked for a few minutes to look over what was available....."Mateo" kind of huffed and walked away... a minute or two later he was back. I asked him for another couple of minutes and he rolled his eyes and left the table. He came back right away with a basket of chips and bowl of salsa - they were good! He took quite a few minutes to return to the table... We placed our order. It didn't take long for Mateo to deliver our order! We had Nachos and A variety of Tamales with a side of yellow rice... The nachos were just okay and luke warm... My Tamales were cold and the rice was very dry! Mateo came by, we had both only taken a few bites... he says 'I'll bring boxes "..... dropped off the boxes and the check and disappeared..... to be honest, the flavors were actually pretty good, But the service and the fact that everything was cold kinda ruined the...
