tl;dr - the food here was great. the restaurant was spacious and the tables were large and good for groups. the food came out quickly and the staff were all very nice.
Longer - I was a bit nervous after making the reservation here when I saw the restaurant was only around 3 stars. Some of the pictures also made it look like the food was not going to be that appetizing but we figured we'd give it a shot since we've been to Mott 32 before (which is the other Chinese restaurant in the Venetian). We were extremely and pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here!! I think this place probably deserves a much higher rating for food quality and taste. We had a party of 8 people and ordered following (starred items ** were our favorites):
Carbs Beef Chow Fun Singapore-Style Curry Rice Vermicelli Yang Chow Fried Rice**
Meats Barbecued Combination Plate (which included a small sampling of the Honey-Glazed Barbecue Pork, Oven-Roasted Duck, and Poached Chicken w/Ginger Sauce)** Mongolian Beef (w/American Broccoli, Mushroom & Scallions) **
Seafood Steamed Sole Fish Filet w/Sweet Soy Sauce** Honey-Glazed Walnut Prawns** Salt & Pepper Squid**
Vegetables / Tofu Szechuan-Style Braised Eggplant w/ Pork** Ma Po Tofu (w/Minced Beef)** Dried-Fried String Beans w/ Dried Shrimp & Preserved Jar Choy, Minced Pork**
We were all quite full and had some chow fun and Singapore rice noodles left over. We probably could have just ordered one of the noodle dishes and would have finished everything. I would re-order everything that we had the stars (**) next to and would skip the ones that don't have it.
Overall really happy with our dinner there and look forward to...
Read moreVery pleased with this experience. The staff didn't speak English very well but they offered great service. And the food was top! I ordered a half and half milk tea coffee like they normally serve in Hong Kong and the waitress was nice enough to serve me one even if it wasn't on the menu. It was much appreciated. We ordered the 3 course duck meal and it was so delicious. The duck broth hand pulled noodles soup was the cherry on the icing for me. Old school rustic comfort food. Just what I needed after a long week of prep and anticipating my wedding. The noodles were so fresh, tasty with the perfect texture. The soup included tofu and Chinese cabage, so comforting! And what a big bowl too.
10 steamy soft pancakes they wrapped for us. So good!
And a dish of stir fried duck meat and chop suey.
They served the remainder of the skins and legs on a plate.
This was a menu for 3-4 people. We were just 2 and had to bring some of it back but had to leave the soup behind.
Minor default, the beer served to my husband had a little piece of grated vegetable on the foot of the glass. The waitress noticed it when serving and tried to remove it. Then another waitress or hostess(not sure) came and apologized asked if she could change the glass and offer a new beer. My husband didn't mind so we just kept the glass. She apologized once more.
We will absolutely return to Hong Kong cafe on our next visit. Because I'm Cantonese, this resto was like a home away from...
Read moreAfter watching BAZ: a Musical Mashup and gambling at Palazzo, we decided to get small bites and drinks at Hong Kong Cafe, located at the edge of the casino. The service was a bit on the slow side but we weren't in a rush to leave. It was a great place to have conversation.
For drinks, I ordered the Iced Citrus Honey Tea, which consisted of honey yuzu citron honey. Other guests in our party ordered the following cocktails: Exhilaration and Oriental Moon. Exhilaration consisted of a blend of Grey Goose, Ty Ku Cucumber Sake, Fresh Ginger, Fresh Crushed Cucumber, Fresh Lemon Juice, Lemongrass Strip and Club Soda. Oriental Moon consisted of Malibu, Ty Ku Coconut Sake, Moonstone Coconut Lemongrass Sake, Lemongrass Syrup, Fresh Lemon Juice, Orange and Pineapple Juice. Both of the cocktails were delicious but surprisingly light in alcohol content.
For snacks, we shared Pan Fried Chicken Pot Stickers and Steamed Shanghainese Pork Dumplings. Both were what you'd expected them to be like. They were served with different sauces - the dumplings were served with ponzu sauce while the XLB were served with black...
