5/5 Stars - A Fun and Flavorful Dining Experience at Hussong's Mexican Cantina
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Hussong's Mexican Cantina - Mandalay Place, and I must say, it was a truly unforgettable experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a fun and lively atmosphere that set the tone for a fantastic meal.
The Ordering Process: A Fun Twist What really stood out to me about Hussong's was the unique ordering process. Our server, dressed in a luchador-inspired outfit, took our orders in a hilarious Macho Man voice, complete with a 10% discount for doing so. I never thought ordering food could be so entertaining! It was a clever touch that added to the overall fun and playful vibe of the restaurant.
The Food: Robust and Zesty Flavors In terms of the flavors, Hussong's truly delivered. The sauces were terrific, and the dishes were robust and zesty. However, I did have a bit of a disappointment with my veggie burrito. While the flavors were great, the burrito itself was lackluster, with a surprising absence of rice, beans, guacamole, and vegetables. I was also surprised to find potatoes in a vegetable burrito - it seemed like a meat-centric dish.
The Meat Lovers' Paradise However, it's clear that Hussong's specializes in meats, and the group I was with loved their steak and chicken dishes. The portions were generous, and the flavors were rich and satisfying. If you're a meat lover, Hussong's is definitely the place to go.
The Verdict: Overall, I would highly recommend Hussong's Mexican Cantina - Mandalay Place for its fun and flavorful dining experience. While my veggie burrito was a bit of a letdown, the overall atmosphere and service made up for it. If you're looking for a unique and entertaining dining experience, Hussong's is the place to go. Just be aware that the veggie options might not be the strongest, and consider ordering the fajitas instead.
Rating Breakdown: Food: 4/5 (would have been 5/5 if the veggie burrito was better) Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Value: 4/5 Overall Experience: 5/5
Recommendation: If you're looking for a fun and flavorful dining experience, look no further than Hussong's Mexican Cantina - Mandalay Place. Just be sure to order the fajitas or a meat-centric dish, and don't be afraid to get into the fun and playful spirit of the restaurant. And don't forget to order in a Macho Man voice for that extra...
Read moreWaste of a family trip, I hated everything on the menu besides my coke. I ordered the chicken nachos appetizer, the cheese tasted like melted, American cheese and the chicken was nasty. I told them to take this back. I didn’t even want to try any other appetizer. I got my sons the $6 taquitos not only did the waitress tell me that my two SONS can share as they are 2 years old and 1 year old. When they came out there was ton of tomatoes and lettuce and feta cheese….. THEY ARE FOR KIDS, you would think she would ask if I wanted that removed. When I saw the plate coming I’m like yeah I’m going to have to order them something else because this is not filling ANYONE. I went to cut or mash the taquitos for my sons to eat THE taquitos was SO HARD couldn’t even break it so I had to send her another plate back and asked for beans and shredded chicken that was SO DRY my son started choking ! Then the beans were so nasty my son never ate it. I should of known that this was the sign to leave but still waited on me and my boyfriend food please keep in mind I had to keep asking for refills she never checked on our drinks or offered more. When our food came I was already expecting the worst. My boyfriend asked for red sauce and cheese on his burrito not knowing that it would be feta cheese which he hates but I was already sending plates back he didn’t want to do it again. I mean we were hungry! I ordered the mix and match with barbacoa and chicken enchiladas OMG I WANTED TO SCREAM I took one bite of my taco and it tasted like mashed up middle school cafeteria meat no seasoning it was SO DISGUSTING. I didn’t even want to try the chicken enchiladas because first the sauce HAD EVAPORATED INTO MY TORTILLAS IT LOOKED SO DRY and also my enchiladas had the same DRY AS A DESERT shredded chicken that had my son choking. I can go to DEL TACO For a better meal don’t waste your time. Now I’m home attempting to eat my leftovers and the black beans are SO HARD that I question if they were...
Read moreI loved my time at Hussong's. We went on a Friday night, and the restaurant was moderately busy. The friendly staff took us to a high-top table adjacent to the bar immediately upon showing up.
Hussong's is a cross between a cantina and your local sports bar. There are TVs everywhere displaying a variety of sporting events. During our visit, they kicked up the cantina vibe by having a mariachi band roam the restaurant and play songs for each table. Don't worry if you don't know enough mariachi music to make a request. The band leader is well-versed in tourist to figure out what to play for you while entertaining you and making you feel at home.
As you'd expect from a place like this, your meal starts with chips and two salsas. Both of which are absolutely on point. They also have an extensive drink menu that specializes in margaritas. My wife got the jalapeno-pineapple, and I ordered the jalapeno-cucumber (what can I say, we're spicy people). Both were amazing.
Then came the food. My wife can attest to Hussong's having some of the best fish tacos in Vegas. Meanwhile, I couldn't limit myself to just one item, so I picked the combination plate with two enchiladas, taquitos, and a quesadilla. Before you label me a fatty, the combination plates at Hussong's don't come with full-sized entrees, so definitely gauge your hunger level before ordering. All our meals were delicious, though I thought mine came with an excessive amount of sour cream.
Alas, the one problem that I have with Hussong's is its location. Sandwiched between Luxor and Mandalay Bay, it's out of the way if you're not staying at or visiting some of the older mega hotels on the Strip. And I wouldn't say that it's so amazing that you have to bypass other Mexican food options closer to you. That being said, if you're in the area, do yourself a favor and have a bite at Hussong's Mexican Cantina. You...
