Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Parsippany-Troy Hills

TL;DR: Extremely long wait times, inattentive and poorly trained staff, forgotten drinks and utensils, incorrect and low-quality food, and dismissive management. One of the worst dining experiences we’ve had in a long time.

We went out for a late-night dinner and were met with a truly frustrating and disappointing experience from the moment we walked in.

It began with the host asking how many were in our party—then walking away without taking our name or giving any kind of wait time estimate. We stood waiting for 5–10 minutes with no explanation before I had to physically get his attention. Even then, he briefly acknowledged us and left again, only returning a few minutes later to finally seat us. The restaurant was busy, but the disorganization and lack of communication were unacceptable.

After we were seated, we waited another 5–10 minutes before a server even acknowledged us. When she finally arrived, her greeting was rushed and impersonal. She didn’t offer any drink or appetizer suggestions, just took our order: I asked for water, loaded waffle fries, and classic bone-in wings. My sister ordered mozzarella sticks and beef nachos—no jalapeños, with the chips on the side.

Then we waited again. No check-in, no updates, no drinks. The server only returned when she dropped off our food—and even then, we had to remind her that we hadn’t received our beverages or any utensils. She returned with just one glass of water for two people, then casually asked if we wanted a second. It was baffling. In what world would only one person at a table want water?

As for the food, it was equally disappointing. I was given cold boneless wings instead of the bone-in wings I ordered. Thankfully, management did agree to remake them and comp them, which I appreciated. My sister, however, received a bizarre and poorly constructed version of nachos: a bowl of beef and a separate bowl of queso, with no classic toppings—no pico, no sour cream, no guacamole—and several of the chips were undercooked and chewy. When she politely brought this up to the manager, he dismissed her concerns entirely and claimed the dish was “prepared correctly.”

Between the lack of basic service, long and repeated wait times, carelessly prepared food, and the manager’s refusal to take responsibility, this was easily one of the worst restaurant experiences we’ve had in a long time. We left feeling frustrated, unheard, and still hungry. We won’t be back—and I’d advise others to steer...

Applebee's, a neighborhood eatery! This time I had the lime chicken with rice ,the chicken has a crust of smashed tortillas and cheese covering it , the chicken was juicy and good 👍, I have been to this location a few times now and it depends when you come for service or a lack there of! Time before last stopped in around 3 pm and was seated, waited 10 minutes before walking out due to no one coming to my table ,This would be a poor staffing issue and falls directly on the poor management that day! My last experience was fine , like I said ,this place is hit or miss ,just wish they can get their shit together and be consistent but you don,t always get managers that care enough to go that extra mile to hire more then one waitress or waiter or pay attention to the customers who walk in , yesterday I had a nice greeter who didn't speak a word of English so I just sat myself down, eventually she came to the table to drop off menus but if you want to ask her a question you best get a translator, I believe they are hiring illegals for certain positions and you don,t see anyone their that even remotely looks like a manager or anyone coming around to tables to see how everything is, Applebee's will eventually be one of the chains that will quietly close in the next few years just like TGI Fridays is now , the menu needs to have new menu items and the restaurants should have periodic cleanings, my friend was bit by a dog from a booth next to us when he got bit walking by the table where the dog lunged from underneath, Never knew dogs were allowed in this restaurant but no harm done ,the dogs teeth never broke the skin but scared the hell out of my friend since we never heard the dog until he lunged from under the table! If Applebee's wants to stay in business they need new managers running things instead of college kids running things without any real direction, yesterday there was 1 server at 2:30 and there was a least 10 tables that had people on them , looks like the service to the people suffers because of...

My husband and I decided to stop in and enjoy a comfort food dinner together after a long day. We were promptly seated at a table in the bar upon entry, and wait staff greeted us after only a few minutes of looking at menus. Our drinks & appetizer were served very quickly, which was nice. That is where the pros end. My meal (4 cheese Mac n cheese with honey pepper chicken tenders)... It was doused with cilantro-so much so that it was all I could taste, and there was no way to scrape it off. After a few bites, I called our waiter over and explained, asking for a replacement. As I didn't want my husband to wait for me and eat cold food, I told him to go ahead and continue with his meal, thinking my replacement wouldn't take long as the restaurant wasn't very busy. After about 25 minutes of waiting and my husband having long finished his meal, my meal came out, (served by a shift leader or manager?) who didn't bring a fork or apologize. She did say she had a replacement bread stick coming out for me as well, but after waiting several minutes for a fork and another 15 minutes for a hot breadstick, I'd lost my appetite completely. $70 for the worst meal I have ever experienced at any Applebee's was ridiculous. The pasta was undercooked but I felt it would be rude to speak up again. If I weren't afraid to offend anyone, I would have left it on the table after taking only a few bites- but instead took some with me in the box that was brought to our table along with my meal. Side note-the shrimp in my husband's steak and parmesan shrimp meal tasted microwaved and Luke warm from the start. We are from New England and have had wonderful experiences at other establishments in this area. This was a Horrible experience, a waste of our time and money.
