Very disappointed.
Been here several times before for boba and KBBQ before the renovation. Had good experiences and enjoyed the KBBQ which was previously ordered through a QR code on your phone and brought out either by server or a little train. This time was not enjoyable.
After probably a month of renovation, the KBBQ has opened back up we went to try it, expecting it to be better than before. Now it's a self serve buffet style, with no more beef bulgogi (why?!) and other foods from before missing. No menu except for the hotpot broths.
The meats are in two sections. First is a literal ice cream cooler with a shitty sliding door next to another ice cream cooler that does have cheap ice cream in it. Then the rest of the meats are in buffet trays, with a couple of tongs that are definitely going to be mixed by unknowing people between the raw beef, pork, chicken, and seafood. Hopefully won't get food poisoning or have someone with seafood allergies.
All of the meats were unbelievably fatty and tough. We didn't even eat much but was left with a plate of fat at the end. I know some people like fat, but this was egregious. And with the lack of a menu or labels on the buffet trays, I didn't really know what exactly I was eating other than it being beef/chicken.
The plates underneath the buffet bar were not cleaned well. Some still had crumbs, grease, and a lot of water stains on them.
Then the drink. I have many times gotten a strawberry smoothie, with a chocolate topping added, and it comes with tapioca pearls. Granted this is a little odd for boba, but I like it. Until today, it has never been a problem to order and it comes out nicely. Firstly it was interpreted as a chocolate smoothie with strawberry, which I corrected them on, no problem. When it comes out, there is so much chocolate that it's basically a chocolate smoothie with strawberry, and I can barely suck it out of the straw it's so thick. It wasn't a big deal for me, but was just odd that I've gotten it so many times with no issues until today.
Last thing that doesn't really matter but it just stuck out to me. Whoever painted the ceiling, which I assume had aluminum channels to hold the tiles up, half-assed it and just painted black over them and got paint all over the tiles too. Was just funny to me.
The good stuff; Nice chill cafe to sit and drink your boba, friendly staff, decent pricing.
I didn't get any pictures of the little food we ate as I decided to make this review on the way out.
I rarely give reviews let alone write one, but today I lost my appetite, and will not be coming back for the KBBQ. It was better before the renovation, and I'm sad to see this spot go downhill considering it's a convenient...
Read moreI’m actually not happy that I have to give them a poor review, because I’ve been there before and it was a better experience. I’ll start with the most egregious thing first. My husband paid for the bill and tipped in cash and after we left, they added extra tip on the card. I don’t know if it was if we were with a group or what, but it was an extremely confusing process this time around. Even the app that you order the food on is different and a little more confusing than it was the last time we were here a few months ago. We were not aware of how the orders were done in a group because like I said, we’ve never been in a group usually it’s just me and my husband, but there was confusion around the orders and when I went to the front to ask them to change the drinks because it’s not what we thought we ordered the lady had an attitude and I was very nice about it. Also, the young lady that kept coming by the table to help would asked to help but then would not do what we thought she was offering. It was just very confusing on top of that. She asked us how we wanted to do the bill and we told her to split it in half with me and my husband on one bill and my friend and her daughter on the other bill. She ended up bringing back three separate bills. My husband paid both his bill and my bill on his card and then tipped her in cash and later he saw that they had added extra tipped onto one of the charges. If they are trying to enforce some sort of minimum, they should do that prior and put it on the bill. It is not OK to change peoples amount that they put down on their cards. My husband tipped her 14% because he did not like the service and there was a lot of confusion and the things that we asked for, some of our food did not come until way later towards the end of our meal. My friend had to ask them twice for onions that we had ordered and we had told them multiple times that we did not get our rice and then we got rice towards the end of the meal when we were already full. The service was not great so I don’t know how they feel entitled to change the tip amount without our permission. Seems illegal to me. Needless to say, I will be finding another place the next time we want Korean barbecue. And I want to add that even though there was a lot of confusion and mistakes, we were nice to the staff the entire time. We are not difficult customers anywhere we go, even when there...
Read moreWent with a group of 6 for ayce bbq. The atmosphere was decent, looked like a pretty new restaurant. The train that delivers food was really cool. But, that's about where the pros end...
The food tasted ok, but how bad can it get when you cook it yourself? As an Asian bbq restaurant, the meat is served raw, so we cooked it to what we like... except we couldn't. The heat on the burner was so weak it took far too long to even cook it to medium rare on the thin briskets (chadolbaegi). The pork belly that we got were still white when we got impatient and decided to eat it.
The place is almost entirely self service. We ordered food using a QR code on the table, the food was mostly served via the automated train. We had to cook our own food. We had to get up to get our own dipping sauce for the bbq. The veggies we ordered never came. But, because we had a group of 6, they had a mandatory tip of 18%.
To top it all off, one of maybe 3 times the server dropped by, he only came by because the weak burner caught fire from the pork oil. And he splashed water all over it, making it flare up even more before deciding to turn off the burner on his own accord.
The other times the server came by was when we ordered too much meat, and he came to confirm if we really wanted that much before only serving half what we ordered (via train). The meat serving was about 3-4 oz per serving, and they cap it at 4 servings per order.
Between the slow cooking and small amount of food we could get in a given period of time, I left an AYCE BBQ restaurant still kind of hungry. That was a first.
All in all, I can't justify giving this place more than 1 star, and that's only because of the trains, that was...
