On my first visit to Pensacola, Florida, I used the Yelp app to locate a nearby sushi restaurant. Sushi Masa came up as one of the nearby places and after reading some of the reviews, it looked like a fun place to try especially since they had and all you can eat lunch and dinner special. For only $17.95, we could choose from over dozens of appetizers, nigiri sushi, rolls, hand rolls, tempura, stir fry, and desserts.
Upon arrival, we saw the parking lot area was full around the restaurant which meant they was busy, always a good sign! We walked in and told it would be a 30-minute wait for a table but I inquired about sitting at the bar and was told it was first-come first-serve seating. Fortunately after a couple of minutes there were seats available at the bar. Britain, the bartender, provided fast and friendly service. She kept checking on our drinks which we only had the included soft drinks, a diet dr. Pepper and a Diet Coke and checking on our food order. I really thought we had excellent service while sitting at the bar. Service was fast and the food selections were delivered promptly.
As you can see from my many pictures, we tried four different kinds of rolls, a few different hand rolls, other appetizers like the salmon skin salad and snow crab salad, and even the green tea ice cream. The one thing I would avoid is the tempura oh, it was more like an ebi fry, a heavier thicker better not so light and fluffy like tempura.
All of the servers will wearing masks and pretty good about it however, there seems to be no social distancing in the restaurant meaning it looks like the restaurant was at 100% capacity. Even worse, there were about six customers sitting in the entry waiting area sitting with no mask but maybe this is the normal for restaurants. Overall, a good...
Read moreYou need to go hungry! We love sushi and honestly, I am not easily impressed and this place did it in spades. First off, we live an hour away and were invited for a birthday dinner. $24.95 all you can eat, and I mean ALL YOU CAN EAT! There were eight of us and weren't really sure what to expect. If you like sushi, you know you can eat $25 worth if sushi pretty quick. There's A big difference between good sushi and cheap sushi. You are able to order off of the sushi menu or the dinner menu or both. You start with appetizers, anything and as much of it as you want. The spicy kani(snow crab) salad, which had zero lettuce or vegetables is amazing its simply a pile of snow crab. Then on to the main, all the special rolls and regular rolls are available on the all you can eat, Sashimi and Nuguri as well, steak and chicken, calamari. The food was terrific. Everything was made to order and fresh. They also include your soda or tea or even your first alcoholic drink in the price if dinner. After dinner you also get dessert, the tempura cheesecake, tempura bananas and green tea ice cream were also great. The service was on spot, our waiter was friendly and very helpful, gave us recommendations and even ordered some things for us to try that we probably would not have thought to. Before we even left the restaurant my wife and I had decided that this place was well worth the drive and that we would be back. Soon. It is perfect for trying some new things and sharing with friends so you can have A little bit of everything. I would recommend this place to anyone that likes sushi, is a lightless adventurous and...
Read moreWe were promptly seated but didn't get to make our drink order for 20 minutes. Since we had enough time to decide we ordered appetizers and our meals at the same time. First thing to come out was soup and salad with plastic forks and spoons ($25-$35 a plate sit down restaurant and get cheap white plastic utensils), the ginger dressing was good but the miso soup had no flavor. All in all, the soup and salad may have been better if we would have had drinks. Our waters showed up at the same time as our first entree. A few minutes after receiving the first entree we got the 2nd and 3rd along with our appetizers. Shortly after we got the last 3 meals. I ordered hibachi steak (medium rare) and shrimp with fried rice. The steak was cooked through and was cold, shrimp was ok, the vegetables were cooked well but very difficult to eat with plastic utensils. The fried rice was simply white rice soaked in soy sauce. Fried rice is well known for it's texture and flavors and this fried rice had no texture and only flavor of soy sauce. At the end of our terrible dining experience our waitress finally showed back up to offer us refills on our drinks as she handed me the $300 bill. On the way out we used the restrooms that can only be compared to county fair portable toilets. Absolutely disgusting! I don't expect true Japanese flavors here in the states but at least give me a descent experience. I will never waste my time or money at this place again. I would highly recommend...
