Simply awful experience. I placed an order by phone for delivery by Koch's. I was told I would have it at a specific time, which was a reasonable 30 minute wait. Seven minutes after the arrival time , called the store and received all kinds of reassurances, it was on the way. Now it's been an hour , and still no food. Now, I am told, they suddenly got busy, but was again reassured, my food was coming. Ten minutes later my food arrived almost 45 minutes later, than I was originally promised. So, now am unwrapping my sandwich , and the first thing I notice, my sandwich was not on the roll, I asked for. So now, I have this huge sloppy corn beef special falling apart . While, I have no complaints about the sandwich being loaded with corn beef, I am complaining about the soft and cheap rye bread they used, which could never stand up against the coleslaw, but the real culpirt was the excessive amounts of Russian dressing that was used. Also, to add injury to insult I hate rye bread. However, I have not literally eaten all day, and so feel forced to accept this sandwich as is. Did I mention am not a pickle person. I did request no pickles but there they were wrapped up in my bag also. So, I ordered whitefish salad too. Instead of sending me a set of plastic cutlery, they send one plastic knife taped to the 1/4 lb plastic container. The prices are just plain high way robbery, my food came to a little over $23.00 , with a 16 oz bottle of water. If there is something so extra special about any of my sandwich fillings, I want to know. Perhaps, if the accented guy had listened , instead of interjecting his own commentary, he could have gotten my order right. This is the first time, I have done a phone order since I recently moved back into the area recently. Here's the problem with stores that give this kind of service in University City. The have a revolving door of new customers each semester , and at the beginning of each school. They are winging it on a reputation of excellent customer service, and food, that was built up and lasted from many years gone by. Now, from what I am reading in the reviews , and from my own personal experience at this time, it seems good customer service is hit or miss. This leaves me with no burning desire to even go into the store to order. Basically, it's a cold cut sandwich. It's not rocket science to make...
Read moreThe man at the counter began our interaction by calling me "pretty girl" and insisting other patrons in the deli do the same. He was appropriately friendly while I waited for my sandwich but at a certain point the conversation quickly became about how much he liked women and especially virgins. He asked me to come back, hopefully with a roommate who was a virgin, because I must know her well and know if she was a virgin because I couldn't be. I am not upset at myself for allowing this talk or behavior, I was frozen in fear of being the only female in a store full of men. He was wrong. I wish I walked out at the first sign of inappropriateness - I also wish I could just get lunch without being in actual fear of being assaulted. Whether his intentions were at that level of escalation is irrelevant; my position as a woman in this world makes me vulnerable to physical and sexual assault and thus, men should have the decency to be aware of that. Those words made me fear for my safety in that store.
I will never patron here again and will advise any person I know in the West Philadelphia area to do the same. This man is a sexual harasser, any man who thinks it's ok to interrogate a young woman about her sexual activity and force her to become a target in a shop full of men, is not a man who deserves hard earned dollars.
Please think how it would feel if someone asked if you, your child, your sibling, spouse, partner, mother, aunt, cousin, grandmother, friend was a VIRGIN while they were ordering a SANDWICH. That's not the "institutional neighborhood" place any of us want. Koch's can stay but that man...
Read moreI've ordered from them before and their food was solid, but I'm afraid their service turns the entire experience sour. Just today, I ordered through grubhub around 130. I expected it to be slow because they're always slow. But an hour and a half came and went and I hadn't eaten breakfast, and I was starving, so I called their number to see what was up. My ETA had changed twice since my order. Their line was dead. Fine. I call grubhub to see if they can reach out to the deli. Grubhub tells me that the deli was closed. I tell the person helping to me cancel my order and I continue to order from a different place (guess I should go grocery shopping soon). I go about my day when my phone rings. Thinking it's the second place calling me to tell me they were out of something, I pick up. It's a guy from Koch's Deli asking me angrily if I've received my food. I tell him no.
Him: "Well it's on its way." Me: "No, dude. I canceled the order." Him: "You canceled?" Me: "yes." Him (now very angry): "Why did you cancel?!" Me: "Because I waited an hour and a half and it didn't show." Him: "Yeah? So?!" Me: "Well I would like to eat the food I bought and move on with my day." Him: "Fine, cancel! And don't order from here again, you idiot!"
He trailed off a little more but I hung up at that point. I'm a really easy person to please and I don't write reviews, or even like to complain. But that entire interaction was unacceptable. I honestly won't be eating from...
