The moment we stepped into Ruth Chris's Steakhouse, the weight of its renowned reputation seemed to crumble under the weight of our disappointment. Our special occasion, my nephew's 20th birthday, brought us all the way from New Jersey to this establishment, only to be met with a series of letdowns in terms of service, food quality, attentiveness, and overall treatment. Securing a reservation for our party of 11 proved to be an arduous task, and it was not until 5/11 that we managed to secure a reservation for 9:15 PM. Arriving promptly at 9:08 PM on a Saturday night, we expected to be promptly seated. Unfortunately, this was not the case, as we were informed by the hostess that we would have to wait an additional 20 to 30 minutes. The lack of sympathy and concern displayed by the hostess only served to further frustrate us. To compound matters, we had three young children with us and the chilly weather outside made waiting unbearable. When we inquired if there was a designated waiting area, the hostess simply suggested she would call us when the table became available. Left with no other viable options, we reluctantly decided to wait near the hostess table, contemplating whether we should seek alternative arrangements. However, as our vehicles were already checked in, we chose to endure the lengthy wait. To our dismay, at 9:38 PM, we had not been checked in nor engaged by any staff members. It was only when we sought an update from the hostess that we were informed the table was still not ready. Finally, around 9:50 PM, a manager assured us that our table would be ready within five minutes. Nevertheless, it was not until 10:05 PM that we were eventually seated. The initial impressions were disheartening, as we immediately noticed torn carpeting and stained chairs. As we were settling into our seats, an outburst from the kitchen caught our attention, with a disgruntled cook expressing their desire to quit the place using colorful language. Additionally, our neighboring table was emitting the pungent aroma of marijuana, clearly disregarding the restaurant's dress code policies. Once we were finally settled, our waiter exhibited a sense of urgency that left us feeling rushed and neglected. As first-time patrons, we expected a thorough introduction to the menu and attentive service, but instead, the waiter stood before us with his notepad, devoid of any genuine engagement. Placing our orders for appetizers and drinks, we experienced a delay of approximately 10 minutes before the beverages arrived, followed by the appetizers. Unfortunately, the lobster bisque, the first dish we sampled, arrived lukewarm at best, setting an underwhelming tone for the remainder of the meal. When our main courses finally made their appearance, the waitstaff seemed perplexed, unable to determine who ordered each dish. We were repeatedly asked, "Who ordered this?" It was particularly disconcerting considering the caliber of a fine dining establishment such as Ruth Chris's Steakhouse. To make matters worse, one of our party members discovered that their order was missing mashed potatoes. Upon inquiry, the waiter nonchalantly informed us that they had run out of mashed potatoes, leaving us astonished. How can a restaurant of this caliber run out of a basic menu item? Moreover, the lack of communication from our waiter to address the issue and offer an alternative was disappointing. The seating arrangement exacerbated our dissatisfaction, as our table was uncomfortably close to another, constantly requiring us to shift and make way for passing waitstaff. Shortly after the meal, my wife needed to use the restroom, only to find that one of the facilities was out of order and the other was filthy, resembling a restroom found in a New York subway rather than an establishment claiming to be fine dining. The lack of attention to cleanliness and maintenance further demonstrated a disregard for providing a pleasant...
Read moreRuth's Chris Center City is nothing like I've experienced back in 2019-2020. The service was absolutely horrible. I watch another couple get up and leave, I was on the verge of leaving too, and I should have followed my first mind. The small framed woman wearing glasses came to the table, she didn't look too happy to be there, there was no smile and barely any positive vibes from her. In fact, she looked miserable and bland. She asked us what we wanted but after seeing how anxious others were and how crowded it was, I asked her how long is the wait? She told me she had no idea. I was immediately annoyed because she works there, how wouldn't she know the average wait time? Anyway, she bought the waters out no straws, there was no salt and pepper on the table, she asked if I wanted salad first, I told her yes but the food didnt come until 38 minutes later. I was like wow for the amount of money we are spending this is horrible. When the food came, the lobster Mac and cheese was a disgrace. The meat was placed on top of the dish dried out, it looked old, it was rubbery, no moisture, nothing succulent at all about the lobster. I flagged a waiter down to ask if I could speak with a manager and told him the dish was unacceptable. Instead of getting the manager, the waiter said to us, "if I were yall, I wouldn't order this again, you better off getting plain Mac and cheese or something else", at this time I should have gotten up and went to Fogo de Chao or walked back to Nebrasa Brazilian steakhouse where I would have gotten better service and food of quality. Anytime, another waiter says something like that, something isn't right with the chef in the kitchen. The lamb chops, although medium well, they were as tough as eating rubber bands with lots of fat, no mint barely seasoned I had to keep spitting fat into my napkin. The mashed potatoes barely had any flavor like they used to and was sat all the way at the end of the table, I had to reach so far to get them. I had to ask my boyfriend to grab them for me. But I am used to being asked "Garlic Mash?" So that they sit it right in front of me but no, the service was just miserable and unprofessional. The best part of the dinner was the crab cakes. The waitress never asked if we wanted any more water, but she did ask, "How is everything going?" Mind you this was before our food came, I said to her, " I am not happy about this experience and we have been waiting too long". At the end, we had to flag this woman down to ask for the check, she gives it to us and the lobster mac and cheese, although sent back, was still charged to the bill. We waited a few minutes for her to come back, she took too long and was seen behind the bar doing something and looking miserable. We ended up walking to the front of the place to ask for the manager who was very nice and a star contrast to the waitors and waitresses, he was friendly and professional. I honestly wasted my money here and will never come back. Some of the men waiters look unkept as well, it looks like some of them rolled right out of bed and showed up to work, no professionalism! The dress code in the place was crazy too. It used to be a casual dressy aura, now people show up with tights, sweatsuits, air force ones, T shirts, tights, sneakers, just flat out hood! The class has went out the window and it was such a waste of my money. The best steakhouse in my opinion is Doughterty's I wish there was one in the city. Their service is superb, everyone is happy to have their jobs, the food is on your table within 10 to 15 minutes, hot, tender, seasoned, sensational, especially their lobster mac and cheese, which is actually mouth watering, savory, and addictive. Honestly, Center City in general has gone down hill since the pandemic!!! Although compensated for the experience, I will never go back!!! It was a horrible experience for the amount of...
Read moreOur party of 6 dined at Ruths chris Philadelphia at 2:15 pm today on Easter March 31st.
I eat at Ruths Chris quite often all over the country. I have been to probably close to 20 locations. This is definitely the worst experience I have had at any location. In fact I have never had a bad experience at any Ruth Chris before today.
Let me say that our server Sammy was amazing. My complaint does not involve her at all as she was the only friendly person who works at this location.
One of the members of my party did not get their meal. All of us were all served but they didn’t make her meal. A manager came out and asked if she wanted the meal still. His snarky response was I can just refund you if you don’t want to wait. He told her this while she was staring at all of us eating. Of corse she wanted her meal. She ordered after all and it should have been there with ours. She had to watch us all eat while they cooked her meal they forgot and hers came out 30 minutes later after we were all finished. Then we all had to wait and watch her eat. The manager seemed disappointed that she still wanted the meal she ordered that they forgot. I asked him how they could forgot a whole meal and he seemed a little annoyed that I would ask and completely ignored me. Anyways she got the meal eventually but it still wasn’t correct after all that and they didn’t care.
Meanwhile I got up to use the restroom since I was done and we were all waiting on her to eat, stopped by the front desk to ask where it was and was directed outside to the connecting hotel to use theirs. Of corse the hotel required a room key to use their bathroom. I went back to the desk to ask for a key and they all seemed confused. They didn’t have a key and they were all staring at me and back at each other smirking. One of the 5 people standing said you can use ours I guess. I found out later they didn’t know I was dining there. They thought I came off the street and they didn’t want me if their bathroom. I was so humiliated. I brought this up also to the first manager in the blue coat and instead of apologizing for what happened to me he got visibly mad and had to “walk away from me” in his words. He didn’t care. Just got mad at me.
I told all this to the second manager when he came out with the missing food and he seemed uninterested and just went on with what he was doing and brushed me off after being treated poorly by almost everyone who worked there.
Then after we paid and were leaving. The first manger wearing the blue jacket (the really angry one) was in the bar with one of the staff and was talking about me and looked over and laughed at me hysterically, actually laughing out loud at me. I wouldn’t even bother writing anything but how he handled this needs to be addressed. Because of him I am...
