Winkel *I uploaded pics along with the menu but I’m not 100% if google allows you to see my pics. 2-23-20 Philly Brunch Sat-And-Or-Sun-Days: Winkel - Center City Philly: No reservations but nice size waiting room in inclement weather. 1st, I’ll show respect to the owner Mr. Dutch Noord for being on the front line and he did not disappoint as a host or waiter. The Crab Cakes in the Crab Benedict are the gems in this dish. A delicious combo of fresh claw meat and spices. The splash of salad w/ pickled cucumbers was an unexpected lovely addition. The eggs were unfortunately sunny and well done, maybe sat under a heat lamp too long or maybe I just don’t fly the Dutch-Way. I prefer poached eggs when I go w/ Benny. And I wish my English Muffin was toasted properly...that crunch of nooks and crannies may been the depth of touch needed to blow my hair back. The tots were ok, a bit mushy. Moving on, the too long of a sentence: ‘deep-fried cranberry bread pudding french toast’ didn’t impress and was well done. Also, I tasted zero almond or bread pudding. The main thing is, the Benny was too soft and the french toast was too hard. The cooks working the line are young and lack finesse. It takes time. My overall experience was good and I’ll wink back @ Mr. Dutch Noord...
Read moreWinkel in Philadelphia is a fantastic hidden gem that brings a delightful Dutch twist to the classic greasy spoon diner experience. From the moment you walk in, the warm and inviting atmosphere makes you feel right at home. The service is absolutely impeccable—every staff member is super friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to make sure you have a great experience. It’s rare to find a place where hospitality feels this effortless and sincere.
The menu features a solid selection of elevated diner fare with a noticeable Dutch influence. The pancakes are definitely a standout—fluffy, flavorful, and perfectly executed. While the overall food quality is above average for a diner, one small drawback is the limited vegetarian options outside of the pancakes. A few more veggie-friendly choices would make this spot even better.
That said, Winkel excels in its role as a casual, welcoming eatery with hearty portions and great flavors. The vibe is laid-back and fun, making it a great place to grab a satisfying breakfast or brunch. It may not be a culinary marvel, but it delivers consistently good food in an environment that feels cozy and well-run. If you appreciate great service and a diner with a unique spin, Winkel is definitely worth a visit. A...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing Brunch spot in Center City. I highly recommend it! All the food is amazing and the staff was also out of this world, with A+++ service. The service was on par with the best restaurants in the city. I was blown away at how professional and friendly everyone was and the staff all worked together to make sure you enjoyed everything. The crab Benedict, was the best eggs Benedict I have ever had in my life. If you like crab, definitely try this dish! It was out of this world. Even the homemade pickled cucumbers with the greens were so fresh and tasty! It is that attention to detail that makes a place really stand out! We also tried the Bread Pudding French Toast, and that was just insane and definitely the best French Toast I have ever had too. Its BYO (which is always fun and a nice plus!!) and the prices are actually very reasonable, especially for Center City. I highly recommend!! There were a few specials that sounded interesting as well, but our party size could only handle so much food to try at once. We will be back! This place is definitely a 15 out of 10. Check them out! It is far better than Green Eggs! Expect a wait of about 30 minutes on the weekend, but bring some friends and chat while you wait. It is...
