Duross and Langel has been our āgo-toā shopping spot for many years now, when we come to Philly ā so imagine our surprise when on Saturday we experienced a āstrange vibeā in the store. What do I mean by this ā we had shopped at Reading and headed to D&L to purchase a few things for friends and ourselves. We were warmly greeted by the two ladies behind the counter, and then one immediately came to the front of the store and asked, āCan I help you?ā We said, weāre looking and trying to decideā¦ā¦.but she stayed in place and watched our every move. I thought that was odd, so I asked the other lady if I could leave my two bags behind the counter while I shopped, thinking that was the issue ā she said of course and took the bags. At this point Steve Duross came in and chatted with a customer who came from upstairs - as we continued to shop, and the one sales person watched. Neither of us had ever had that happen there before, and didnāt quite know what to make of it. Still donāt. We both bought something and the lady behind the counter was quite pleasant; but it felt uncomfortable somehow. When we left the store, I turned and asked āIs it me, or was there a weird vibe in there?ā The quick response was āNope, it wasnāt you ā I felt it too.ā Iām guessing perhaps, thereās been an issue with things being taken? Odd & disappointing ā though the products are exceptional for sure! The joy of shopping @ D&L is the products - but also, you always felt welcomed. The sales staff would often offer free samples to try and chat. Not on Saturday....maybe it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been going to this store from before it even moved to its current location when it first opened. I have always loved it and loved the products. The reason I am only giving 2 stars? Service. I remember when it opened, the owner, Steve, frequently had dogs there. It was a very warm, friendly atmosphere. They really seemed to love animals. They even sell dog soap products. I live a few blocks away and used to go in with my small, well behaved dog a lot. Last time I went in, I noticed a no dog notice prominently displayed ( I see it on the website now too) . When I asked the woman ( I belive the co-owner) about it, she made a comment about how dogs are bad and were ruining things. She made another comment about not liking dogs. I was taken aback by her demeanor and comments and left. I have had her be cold and a bit unfriendly in the past, but still went because I loved the products. ( I see another comment below about her and the vibe and completely agree). I donāt think I will be back after many, many years of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpdated with our recent haul! I love the eco-packaging - safeguards from drying out as well.
My whole family loves Steve; always have, always will. We supported his store in the early years, the barber years, and now with the new store. Though we moved out of the city, we still get our soap and have it shipped to us and our loved ones. The shipping cost is FAIR, so don't complain. You're welcome to walk to CVS and get your products there; no one is forcing you to support a wonderful small business that simply expects respect in return. Ignore the negative reviews; humanity is tough in general, so check out the new store and I promise you won't be disappointed :) Family recommendations: paloma, sea salt scrub, revive, ocean, lemonade, cherry almond; eucalyptus bath salts are great for old...
