America's Oldest Theatre! I have been attending shows here for over 20 years and the talent, from actors/singers to sets to orchestra to choreography is always incredible. Seemingly overshadowed by big sister city NYC, one should never count out the talent Philadelphia has to offer, and it is regularly on display here at the Walnut. In terms of navigation, there are lots of one way streets so plan before you go, but artistically, this is a gem in Philadelphia musical theater . As of this post, go see Shrek the musical, playing through January 5, 2020. So much energy and such talent. You must have a sense of humor and a knowledge of pop culture and, ahem, potty humor (farts have a dedicated song!). Sets were amazing and, of course, the story is perfect. Help keep the Arts alive, take any kid you know to see this particular show and get them hooked on the joy of musical theater!

We went to see Million Dollar Quartet at the Walnut Street Theatre, and it was an unforgettable night! My wife had purchased our tickets through TickPick, but when we arrived, we realized there were no barcodes on them. The staff at the box office couldn’t have been kinder or more patient—they took the time to help us sort it out and ultimately just comped our seats. One of the box office gentlemen told us to come back if we couldn’t see, but the joke was on us—he had given us front-row seats! The show itself was fantastic. The live musician-actors were absolutely electric, performing just a few feet in front of us. The music, energy, and storytelling were all top-notch. We loved every minute and left grinning ear to ear. Huge thanks to the Walnut Street Theatre staff for turning what could have been a stressful moment into an incredible experience. We’ll definitely be back!

Saw Elf on November 30, 2024 the 2:00pm show @WST A beautiful old theater though the seats are newer and padded they are also VERY tight. If you’re a large person… forget it. You won’t fit. No leg room whatsoever! Can be uncomfortable for an average size person. The singing & dancing were phenomenal! Very talented performers. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎭❤️👏🏻👏🏻However, especially for parents, to be aware that in some scenes the actors swore & cursed. (And there were plenty of kids in the audience) Also a reference to pro same sex marriage & a hate filled comment about the Mormons. Disrespectful & uncalled for. (Certainly common sense was not used in the writing of the script.)Especially for those spending their money on a ticket to see a show that’s supposed to be for everyone to enjoy & feel comfortable. That really took away from the talented players in the show.

Been going for two years. Last year my daughter and I saw The Little Mermaid. Even though it was mad packed we had a great time. The staff was very friendly, clean place and the show was awesome. This year we went to see Cinderella. It wasn’t as packed as last year (great show still) the reason for the two stars are because of the staff. The staff they have this year are rude. We were running late and we know that we had to wait until we can get seated after the first song. We used the bathroom and then decided to take some pictures while waiting. I asked one of the staff if she can take our picture, her response “No, I cannot” then walked away. Such a bad experience for my daughter to be shown such rudeness. I can understand if she was to say “due to Covid or security reason we can’t touch anyones phone” I would have been more understandable but to show this kind of behavior is unacceptable for the amount of money we pay, staff needs proper training or needs retraining. Then a different staff, when it was time to go in. I asked if she can point us to the right door and which seats, she looked at my ticket then said “oh you’re in row A left side, make sure you go through the last door cause you don’t want to disturb the performers. We usually want anyone seating from row A-C to be on time”. I had to bite my tongue cause I didn’t want to cause a scene in front of my daughter. I simply turned around and walked away. But yeah, not a great experience this year withy he staff. The gentleman cleaning the bathroom was very more friendlier than the women working there, he told us to enjoy the...

I recently attended a performance of Dreamgirls at this theatre. While the venue is conveniently located with decent sightlines in the orchestra section, and the cast was undeniably talented, my experience was severely soured by the behavior of the audience.

It’s one thing to have a couple of disruptive individuals in the crowd, but at this performance, a significant portion of the audience treated it like a karaoke bar, singing along, chatting during the show, and even saying the dialogue with the actors. When I approached the front-of-house staff during intermission, their response was underwhelming at best. They suggested I find another seat, but given that they have access to the seating chart, I would have hoped they’d take responsibility for managing the situation.

Unfortunately, the disruption continued when I moved to a new seat. The new people behind me continued the same rowdy behavior, and the person to my right spent the entire second act scrolling through her phone. Despite several incidents, ushers made no attempt to address the situation, nor did they patrol the aisles to ensure proper decorum.

This was my first visit to this venue, and unfortunately, it will be my last. While the show itself was enjoyable, the lack of crowd control and attention to audience behavior left a sour taste. Theatre is a shared experience, and it’s disappointing when the venue fails to...

We have been subscribers for years and they decided to remove their one Friday night 8pm show. We never received a call or email and they decided to put our tickets at 2pm on a Friday. Most people like my husband and I work full time and are not out of work at that time. Now we lost our time slot and the seats we’ve had for years. We were told it was due to lack of filling the seats on that week night and they have better luck filling the seats in matinee shows. So basically forget about all the loyal subscribers who have come back every year, screw us over and they just exchanged the tickets for anything they had available. Most seats were not nearly as good as the seats we paid for with our subscription for the last couple of years. They want to boost sales but they must have known by doing this they were going to have a lot of disgruntled subscribers. The manager Luke who I spoke to said they chose the night with the least subscribers so they would screw over a minimal number of people. Then they could not guarantee our seats for the next year. This is all very disheartening as we have always enjoyed walnut street theater but there is a REALLY good chance that they have lost a subscriber and we hope that sharing this experience will caution others from subscribing. They clearly don’t care about their subscribers as much as they act...
