Jason's Deli — Restaurant in Phoenix

We go to this location A LOT and spend a pretty good amount each visit, as we have a large family. Our orders are NEVER under $70 and usually in the $90 range. A few times over $100. That's a lot for fast food. Some of us always order the same exact items, salads. My vegan daughter and my son never fail to order a salad and I always have checked 2 flavors of dressing each salad. Never been an issue, until last night. I had the order confirmation emailed and my husband called in to pay. The employee that answered quoted $11 more than the confirmation. My husband didn't know why, so I got on the phone. This employee tells me it's for the dressing. I explain I hit reorder and never been charged for dressings, ever. And certainly not $11 anywhere! I told her that's being petty as we have spent over $700 in the past 27 days and out of principle just take off the extra dressings. She never once said I'm sorry or tried to explain how she came to that amount. Again, I say we eat here a lot and spend a lot and never been charged for a little extra dressing and how did it come to $11? She just said "yeah, it's the dressings that's extra", but no reasoning as to how it came to that. She also argued that my email confirmation didn't say what it did. I took screen shots of my order amount and the last few visits and amounts. I don't see how to add photos to the review, but do have them. That will be our LAST visit to this location. The rudeness and lack of customer appreciation has turned me off and I will give business to another deli that appreciates their customers more. Also, two times ago my order was wrong and I never complained. Last night's order was not near as good as usual. Several items were wrong or not prepared as ordered. Missing 2 items as well. I didn't bother calling, as I didn't want to deal with the unpleasant, uninformed employee. Farewell, Jason's...

The experience itself was fine. The hibiscus tea was super yummy. The beef stew was very good. I was excited about an actual salad bar. (Come back Sweet Tomatoes!!!)The salad bar was clean, stocked, and fresh. I did not ask and it was not clear if the salad bar was an all you can eat or one trip type situation. The ranch tasted more like a vinegarette and was good but not as ranch. The blue cheese was thick and flavorful. The honey mustard was really sweet. The lime vinegarette tasted like straight lime juice. The Italian was good. The jalapeno ranch was not good. The gingerbread muffin tasted like a gingery version of the same dirty dish water jus (see below). Would have liked some green peas or edamame as an option. The potato salad was bland. The broccoli salad tasted like it just had Mayo on it. The Italian pasta salad was decent.

The walls were dirty.

The beef sandwich had good bread to soak up the jus. But the beef and cheese were bland. The jus tasted like dirty dish water. Not sure how a beef stew can be so good and jus be so bad. The chicken dumpling soup was sweet and bland at the same time.

The kids Mac and cheese was a large portion and very cheesy.

Priced decently. It was worth a try but not sure it will be worth...

We have been loyal customers of Jason's for 15 years. There have been times we've eaten there two or three times a week. Especially at MetroCenter. Tonight was a virtual "how not to run a restaurant " video in the making. A shift manager (?) who wanders around the restaurant arranging toothpicks and straightening menus, and passing by at least five or tables that needed to be bussed. Three were next to us. They were like that when we walked in the door and were like that when we sat down. I finally got so disgusted waiting for someone to come over, I cleared all the tables myself. All while the young girl tore down and cleaned the salad bar while we were trying to go through line. It was 8 o'clock. The tables I bussed never did get wiped down and needed to be straightened and chairs put back. The salad bandit left her two tables dirty and chairs strewn about where she cleaned the salad bar. Then she went back behind the counter and chatted until her shift was up. The manager does NOTHING!! He never asked how our food was. Didn't say a word. Sad to see such a great restaurant go...
