Let's start with the good, and move along to the bad. The staff was friendly and helpful. I had no problems with the staff at all. The location is great. Right off of the 17, and there are plenty of places to eat and shop in the immediate vicinity.
Now. The room. Dear Lord. The room. No chairs. No coffee pot. No microwave. NO TRASH CAN. No mini-fridge. Not much of anything. Just the furniture, and a TV (LED flat screen. They have replaced the CRTs)
When I say that there are no chairs... Listen. There is a small table as well as a desk. There should be at least two chairs in there. You have to sit on the bed, which is really annoying.
The carpet is FILTHY dirty. I do not normally wear shoes indoors, but I took 3 steps across the floor after a shower, and my feet looked so gross, I felt compelled to re-wash them, with my socks and shoes on the ready.
Because of the funk nasty carpet, the room smelled atrocious. If I hadn't been so tired, I wouldn't have been able to sleep. At a BARE MINIMUM, they have got to get these carpets shampooed. Like, bad. Bad x 100. They are holding smells so bad that it is almost headache inducing.
To top off all of that, some homeless dude came knocking on my door in the middle of the night, insisting that he left his phone inside. I told him to take it up with management , as there was nothing in the room when I checked in. I called the front desk, and they sent security (which apparently did nothing). About 30 minutes later, this dude comes knocking again. At that point, I went outside and cussed him all the way out. I had to threaten him with a beat down if he came knocking again. Suffice to say, he did not return. So ummm yeah. There was that.
You can tell that this place was, at one time, a beautiful little Inn. Was. It is not that now.
So here is what it needs: if they can't be bothered to shampoo the carpets on a regular basis, they need to rip out all of this nasty carpet and put in tile. They need to put in very standard and basic things like coffee pots and a mini fridge. They need to replace the old wooden doors with metal ones. Just please update this place. It could be nice.
Despite potential, I really can't recommend this place. It gives me slum-lord vibes. Whoever owns this property is just sitting back and getting paid. There seems to be no consideration for guest amenities, cleanliness, or modernization. I can live with old, and no amenities, but the filth, I cannot abide.
If you end up having to stay here, I suggest you pop over to Burlington's and buy some slides or shower shoes. You'll be...
Read moreThe “Inns” owned by the Whitbread chain are best described as motels and, in my experience, provide a consistent standard of bed and breakfast accommodation throughout, although there are minor variations between establishments, not all of which have lifts to the upper floors, so guests with mobility problems would do well to specify a ground-floor room when booking. Some of the accommodation can be in annexes rather than the main motel.||||Access to the rooms is provided by key card which is also needed to enter the hotel from reception. In some (most?) cases the card has to be inserted into a slot to operate the room’s lights.||||Most rooms provide a large, comfortable double bed, although some rooms offer two single ones. There is often, but not invariably, a ‘sofa’ bed as well. If there isn’t one an armchair is provided.||||The en-suite bathrooms provide a toilet, and a hand basin, and recently more establishments appear to be providing shaver sockets. All rooms have showers, but, as most appear to be over a bath, those with mobility problems would be advised to check accessibility beforehand. Bath and hand towels are provided. Mirrors are found in both the bathroom and the main bedroom.||||Free Wi-Fi and a modern, large screen TV are the norm and there is usually a table with a chair and a desk lamp, above which are four electric sockets. Tea making facilities are provided, as is a hair-dryer.||||There is adequate space available to hang clothes overnight with a full length space and a number of shelves.||||The rooms themselves are generally clean and quiet, even where they are close to traffic, although there can occasionally be some noise from other guests in some of the older establishments.||||The one consistent drawback appears to be that the rooms in general are overheated and it can be difficult, if not, at times, impossible to reduce the temperature, as there are restriction devices on the windows which prevent them being opened by more than a couple of inches, and the heating controls are frequently not adjustable.||||Staff are mostly cheerful, friendly, and efficient, although like in any walk of life you may find one who finds it hard to smile.||The accommodation is generally reasonable value for the money.||||The attached chain restaurants serve pub grub from at least two standard menus. This is adequate but nothing more, and currently (May 2022) service can be slow due to post-covid staffing problems. Unfortunately they all seem to consider it not only mandatory but desirable to assault patrons’ ears at all times of the day with what I presume they...
Read moreThe price is low, but they make it up, in the lack of cleanliness and horrible customer relations. Also by frequently tossing guests out after they've paid... We we're rudely evicted at 12:02AM January 1st, for lighting sparklers and a smoke bomb in the empty paved corner of the parking lot...after a week of paying their fluctuating daily rent, and observing several other guests being escorted out of their rooms (assuming it was for doing really bad stuff), we witnessed first hand, the absolutely insane and profane manager, as he screamed, running from the other side of the property, "get the f*#k off my property" at us...He proceeded to scream, insult, accuse and curse at us until we emptied the room.... We quickly gathered and removed what was our remaining property (things not damaged in our house fire on Christmas Eve- hence our need for the room). We had brought several loads of stuff, to the room both to clean it up and presumingly for safe keeping...Because of his fit, everything was scooped and shovelled into a heaping pile in the back of our truck during about a 20 min frenzy...We had to lock our terrified dog in the cab of the truck, while the manager screamed, cursed and threatened us while we worked as quickly as possible to get out of there...Once the room was cleared, we were packed and ready to go, but he hadn't had enough drama...He threw his coat off into the parking lot, his chest was puffed out and he charged at my boyfriend saying he'll "kick his ass"... When I asked the manager to please stop screaming at us, he instructed me to then get off his property, inferring that I should leave, and let them duke it out... Not only were we out the $50 we paid for the night, it was nearly 1AM on New year's day- (most of the near by motels were booked) we had to pay an additional $80 to get a room, that we had to check out of by noon (costing right at $10 an hour-once we were registered)...Also, our belongings we're poorly packed into the truck, and things we're falling out as we drove away (I'm still uncertain as to the extent of damage). The so called manager "Aaron" should not have a job, nevermind work with the public... I hope The Premier Inn figures it out soon, he's a lawsuit waiting to happen... This motel received 1 🌟 from me, only absent the option of...
