I wish I could give more than 1 stars, but I would be lying. This place was a dispointment and wrong on so many levels. I think we caught them on a bad night, at the best. Everybody at our table, 6 of us, complained that the tables were too small. Although there were 2 full sized pools tables and a full sized fooze ball table for a "family" atmosphere experience. The only ones I saw using the pool tables we employees who must have had nothing better to do. The young wo.en that took our order, or rather tutored us on how, after we were seated, were instructed to decide what you wanted eat from a menu at your table, and then approach the serving section. I am wheelchair bound, and it was easier to stay at the table, and our server offered to bring the , which I accepted. Later, my brother showed up by himself. He was told y the ine server to wait to be seated. Then she disappeared. The place only had a party of four besides us. So, so he decided to seat himself. She asked him what he was doing? I am am sitting gown. This is my family. He said. She walked up to us ahead of him and asked us, "Do we know him" Yes! I was thinking if there was so little room for "family sized" tables, why not ditch the rhere sports tables and put in some dining tables. Now about the food. It was not reat by a long shot. They mentioned after we all got settled down that due to having a "full house" all day, they were out of chicken, which is what we mostly wanted to order. So I settled for a chicken burrito. It was a rolled flour tortilla. Stuffed. Full of red RICE. And I received two of them. They barely had a tablespoon of chicken between the two of them. I am really disappointed by now.For $20 ahead, I expected $20 worth of food, but I did not get it. Snd i was charged another $20.00 tip wthout any.notification thst i saw. I felt ripped (read that gouged). off.a letdown. I can't recommend this joint for fine dining. They could put a wet bar next to the pool tables and turn it into...
Read moreI saw a street-corner 'sign guy' taking a break along Peoria on the north edge of Metro Center. I could make out the green, white and red of the Mexican flag, and caught the word 'buffet'. SO, I pulled up along him at the curb, and he directed me south along 28th Drive. It's just south of the neighboring Borders Books and Culvers burgers. There are some 9' ft flags there and a sign-board along the curb. Plus, there's a large photo array of their food in the window. It's positively HUGE inside, with the ceiling at about 2 and 1/2 store's tall. There are a couple of pool tables, several foosball tables, and a two separate lounge areas for video games. There' stage set-up also, I assume for karaoke, or acts to perform. The kitchen is all of the way to the rear, and if memory serves, there were a dozen hot items to choose from, served cafeteria style by the owner. Plus, she asked if I wanted chicken, or steak fajitas, and I chose the latter. I did not try everything on this visit, as I was not too hungry, and I don't like to waste. However, the mole was dark and delicious, and certainly one of the best blends I have ever tasted. Served with slow-simmered chicken. I had a sampling of the green chili beef stew, lentils, beef birria, and naturally, the beans and rice. The latter two were fair, but they were blown away by the entree items. I've never had lentils in any Mexican restaurant, and they were superb, right at my max tolerance for heat, LOL. Their birria sauce was delicious, and the stew was superb. Oh yes, a healthy serving of fajitas, with the grilled veggies swinning in queso blanca. Outstanding. Many have mentioned it's $20 no matter when you arrive. However, they were at $15 today for Cinco De Mayo. I believe all of the drinks are extra, and my horchata was also delicious. Family owned/run, and most definitely worth...
Read moreThe food was a lot better than i thought it would be for buffet style. Some foods you get right away, some you order from the back. The food from the back comes faster than you think and is totally worth waiting a couple of minutes! Plus it's hot and fresh and much cleaner than a regular buffet that way!
The soups and stew you get before the food from the back is very good, homemade quality. Its standout for sure, and it's really really good.
The enchiladas were excellent. The mini chimis were excellent and the carne asada fries were pretty good and bigger than I thought.
I felt bad about wasting food! I saw other people complain about the portions but ordering three things from the back plus the first plate of soup and pozole and stuff was way too much for me to eat, but I still tried to eat it all. I might have ordered more because I saw the review about the portions being small but like i said it was way more than I could eat as a big fat dude. Lol
The food and the agua fresca was really good overall and some of it is truly outstandingly good. I felt like it was a good deal overall and I would recommend it to anyone. How can you beat 20 bucks for unlimited fresh Mexican food? One thing at Filibertos is 16 bucks!
Some of the food i had was easily among the best and most authentic I've had in my many years of eating at as many Mexican restaurants all over the country as I can. This place has really good food and for getting as much as you can eat it's the best value too!
I saw on the website that you can get a membership that makes it way less expensive than 20 bucks too! That would be totally worth it and I'll probably check it out.
The owner really works his butt off and I hope everyone goes here and eats the good food so it stays open for a long time! I'll be...
