I spent about 2½ weeks with the kind folks who run this property. I'm disabled, a former travel agent, and a Phoenix local. I needed to be "elsewhere," for about a month, unexpectedly, and this Hyatt Place was the fourth location, where I was able to collect myself and take care of business.
I was extremely impressed with the staff, and was told who the overall manager was, but never met her (Suzanne Wong, and apologies for any misspelling). They were empathetic and professional, and I had to rebook/extend the reservation, once.
While you see different things—as anybody might—if you're in one place long enough, my observation of the staff extends to housekeeping and other support positions. After a month of not being able to return home, I was pleased to encounter this environment.
In my experience, Hyatt has always been a reliable brand, and while I haven't personally stayed at a Hyatt Place before, I suspect that the color of any traveler's experience is very much affected by the demeanor of onsite staff and basic services.
Although I didn't avail myself of these, they have a pool, which would be better any time but February, even in Phoenix. There's a well-equipped fitness center (free weights and several mechanics), and they have a much better than average breakfast included, utilizing a true kitchen and serving area.
I did enjoy a cocktail at their "bar," but this is an at-will service, only available when a front desk employee can serve from a limited selection. I think they have offered sandwiches in the past, since Google still lists them as such, but this amenity was unavailable during my stay.
If you look at the captions of the images I've provided, you'll get a bit more insight into odds and ends of an extended experience with this property. I'm aware that certain readers of my reviews expect a different flavor of honesty, but not much I could say has any bearing on how they might be, after the renovation I believe they've already planned.
If I have any advice to the property in their remodel—and I found the place modern and well outfitted, as it was—then it's limited and physical: Improve the drainage issues (not a problem, as a guest), exclude roof access, increase wifi transponders, and develop a different emergency plan. I will not detail these items here, and none of them interfered with my stay.
In point of fact, I enjoyed what I was able to see and do, and also appreciated the security of the hotel.
As for the question most would ask, "How is a place right next to the highway?" I can answer that the I-17 wasn't a factor, and I occasionally have trouble sleeping. I was also compelled to stay at a few unsavory locations, just to the north, and this property had absolutely none of those concerns.
There was a sitting area with a queen-size fold-out that I never used, and good in-room amenities (refrigerator, coffee maker, an unusual TV input panel). Family travelers would be well served here, and proximity to points north is important to any visitor.
You can also go south, but I wouldn't recommend that, during rush hour. Among other things I can express, as a local, there's plenty of food, right around the corner (Olive Garden, Burger King, etc). I can personally affirm that the Metrocenter Mall, which was quite ahead of its time, prior to 2000, is essentially defunct. There are few sites of interest still adjacent.
The property is worth booking, rather than something right next to Sky Harbor. The travel to arrive is fairly simple, to visitors landing there. If you're stopping in—headed to the Grand Canyon or Sedona, perhaps—or staying a while (for whatever reason), it's a wise and...
Read moreI generally use the Hyatt in Chandler but I decided to pick this one since it was closer to my boyfriend's work. We use a hotel every week to spend time together away from both of our children. I've stayed at this location twice now. The first time the room they put me in it was so hot and the air conditioning didn't work they had to switch me rooms. Both rooms were also gross. My feet were dirty from the floor and I used the sheet over the couch to sit on it was dirty. This time I paid an extra $ for a "high floor room" hoping for better accomodations than last time. The room couldn't have been further away from the elevator. I'm wearing stiletto heels and have a pretty big bag with me. The chick that checked me in hooked at the list of available rooms for a good 3 minutes before she assigned my room. She set me up to have a bad night. There's a ton of stains on the couch and floor as soon as I walk in it smells heavily of men's cologne in the room. It was very dirty and run down. I put my bag on the counter on the wet bar sink and it had something sticky on it. I got a washcloth and wiped it but it wouldn't come off without really rubbing and it left a brown stain on my bag. Also Turns out that they provided me with only 1 washcloth. Looking around there was stains all over the walls some of them look like blood. I was just glad I was only there for one night I wasn't complaining to the front desk either because I got major attitude from the chick at the front desk when I was checking in for no reason. also she was not dressed appropriately for her job. Wearing a cut-off shirt exposing her midrift. The bedding itself was actually clean. I just went ahead and fell asleep until my boyfriend got there. We left around 9:00a.m. after their pathetic Continental breakfast. 2 Days later I have $250 charge from them. So I called the hotel to ask them why. They said it was for smoking in my room. I don't smoke. I've never been falsely-charged for it. My boyfriend is highly asthmatic. I told the woman that I don't smoke cigarettes and I never have she stated well it could have been any kind of smoke. What?! I told her to give me proof that we smoked in the room. She told me the manager that has the pictures on her cell phone isn't available and she doesn't have the pictures so she would have to have somebody call me back tomorrow. I'm just going to dispute it with the bank! how do they have pictures of smoke? If not smoke, Pictures of what? A smell? They took pictures of me smoking? No they didn't. They didn't have me sign anything. I looked and there is not a no smoking policy on their website. Don't they have to give you a disclaimer or policy to sign for that? The chick with the attitude on check in made it seem like it was $50 deposit so that I could use their little snack bar in the lobby if I wanted. Which I didnt. I didn't know that they were going to charge me four times the authorized amount. I won't stay here again. I'll update this review when...
Read moreI stay in many hotels in my travels from 5 star - 1 star. This is one of the few times I've encountered a building with the name "Hyatt" on it that did not live up to the Hyatt standards or ratings. Great location with very polite staff workers. Tatiana (apologies if I misspelled her name) at the front desk was the best....helpful, polite, and the kind of person every hotel needs. So what went wrong you would ask? I'll give details later. Overall I believe the building was built in 1976 and rooms & decor simply need to be either updated in sections or the building closed and get the updates completed. My room had old stains on some very old carpet, several electrical sockets simply had no power, no USB ports anywhere, no safe to store valuables. Regarding "creature feature" needs, there were no pens or pads to write down information for a new person in the area, no hair dryer, no lotions, only one set of towels and wash cloths per person, old style chairs and couches missing leather, old and over used, fingerprints on wood, chrome, metal pieces that appeared to have been there a long time. The bath tub drained slow and was nearly plugged. The toilets have not been updated to power flush and did clog. The staff came right up and made the repair, but the whole experience was annoying. Visually, the entry area has been updated but the rooms still contain popcorn blown ceilings from the 70's, old "fabric" chairs & couches that frankly cannot be properly cleaned in this age of sanitary standards. I'm not sure if I was supposed to ask for my room to be cleaned, but no one came to the room for service during my entire 2 1/2 day stay. My past experience is, even in short staffing the hotel front desk will ask your choice or cleaning automatic daily. The included breakfast is muffins, bagels, cereal, fruit and juice. Okay, but for a real breakfast or any meal for that matter, be prepared to go to a restaurant. You will need a car or Uber to get to any services. One Sushi place within walking distance. Everything else is a drive. There are no chairs or benches in the front of the hotel to wait on your ride or just enjoy the outside. I'm not sure if that is to discourage the homeless population or what?? During breakfast the television is on but the sound is for some reason turned off. And that would be okay if the "caption" feature was not used so a person could at least read what was going on. Pool, gym, and computer room are all up to par. All in all not a horrible place but at $300 per night much more is needed and expected by the paying customer with past experience of the good...
