Spouse and I love coming here for the service, drinks and excellent food. It was about 10 degrees outside so we asked not to be seated by the door and we were pleasantly accommodated. Can get a little chilly by the door in both the bar and restaurant.

We dined at 6:00 PM on a Saturday night with a reservation made the day before on OpenTable.

We really loved the fancy chicken sandwich, easily favorite part of the meal. Yes, I said the fancy chicken sandwich of all things. The flavor, garnishes, spicy level, bun, everything was perfect. We've been here several times and any chicken we've ever ordered has been better than anything else we've tried in the past.

Beef tartare (2nd favorite part of the meal) - perfectly prepared and well seasoned with a chilled poached egg on top - see attached video!

Smoked Bluefin Dip - Well paired with the butter grilled crackers. Had a complex flavor profile. Seafood is so difficult to rate for well seasoned foodie travelers, because we all know it's not the same as being at the actual ocean or bay. This was probably our least favorite part of the meal, but we spend a LOT of time dining at the ocean so it's a tough call.

Tart Cherry Shrub mocktail was refreshing and perfectly complementary with the spicy chicken sandwich.

Also had a nice thick porter Necromancer brew, a tasty Shogun Slap and a really neat Kimchi/Tequila drink called an international pickleback which was a change of pace and spicy if you like that sort of thing. Very satisfied with all the pours/drinks.

Our server was Jennifer and she was super attentive and wonderful the entire time. It's nice that everyone kind of helps each other out at this establishment, too. Keeps things coming out and hot when it gets to you.

Love going to Butterjoint before events in Oakland and will be back again many more times in the future! Thanks to all at...

I wasn’t really a planned visit. I was craving some Indian food and went to Tamarind just to find out that they were closed on Monday. We were famished, and this happened to be the nearest restaurant. It was just around noon on a weekday and the restaurant was relatively empty, and we were seated immediately as at one of the corner tables. The decor isn’t much to look at to be honest, but it isn’t drab either. The service was quick and our server made sure that we had everything to our liking. The water bottle was filled practically and promptly multiple times during the lunch. we weren’t looking for a heavy lunch, so we both ordered a burger each. My friend is vegetarian so she went with the vegetarian burger, and I went with the special chicken sandwich. Our server made sure to ask us whether we wanted our fries to be cooked in tallow or canola oil, and this was a nice touch for my vegetarian friend who preferred her to be cooked in oil. I haven’t really seen a lot of other places do that. I loved my chicken sandwich. It’s had a huge piece of fried chicken thigh along with kimchi and gochujjang. The combination worked really well, and it was probably one of the best chicken sandwiches I have had. There were also a mountain of fries accompanying the meal as is the norm in America. The fries were crispy and properly seasoned. The portion size in general was huge, and my friend couldn’t really finish her burger or fries. I think I’ll be back again and this time maybe...

Lovely restaurant with outdoor seating on a large sidewalk, indoor restaurant seatings and a separate bar with tables, high tops, bar seatings. They do happy hour Monday to Friday from 4to6pm only in the bar area, it was mostly empty with plenty of seats open. We went there on a Friday right after work, around 5, and sat in the bar area. We ordered a Tom Collins and Vida Las Vegas for drinks and they were really good. Then we had sauerkraut balls and goat cheese crostini for apps, and a fancy veggie burger and a butterjoint burger. Everything was very nice and felt like comfort food; I'm not a big fan of fries but I couldn't stop eating them because, for what I understood, they are fried in meat fat instead of oil so if you are vegetarian I'd skip them (The server told me about this detail when I ordered the veggi burger but, not being vegetarian, I went with them). Service was fast and both the servers and the bartender were very cordial ND friendly. The atmosphere in the bar is intimate and it would be perfect for a date night. The restaurant was bigger and with more lights making it good for families or groups. Both restaurant and bar have the same menu. The outdoor is nice too but the street is a bit busy so it wouldn't be my first choice. They don't have a dedicated parking but there is street pay parking and we found a spot in the same block. I'll definitely go back because we were happy...
