I am officially giving this 5 stars because it was closer to 5 than it was to 4, but if there was a 4.5 option that's likely what I'd choose.
My wife and I have a yearly tradition of going out to at least one "fine dining" restaurant and we've tried a few of the local options at this point (Hyde Park, Capital, Lemont, etc) to have some sense of scale for fair comparison here.
I'll start with the location is not ideal. Yes, located right in the heart of town so it's easy to get to, but the street itself is one way on one side and a small packed street on the other. Even getting dropped off in Uber was a little chaotic in dress clothes to get safely to a sidewalk, but this is a minor complaint. When you enter there is a nice bar area and on the evening we were there, was a woman playing live music at a piano. She was pretty talented too! They then take you up an elegant lighted stairwell to the dining area. Now some reviews complained of tight seating and I could see where that might be true, but the wife and I had a booth which was perfect. It was a bit bright compared to other experiences I have had at steakhouses, but not to the point that it was negative.
The server was fantastic. Everything you can ask for in service from a place of this caliber. He was friendly, knowledgeable and walked a good line between attentive and not being annoying. Multiple managers stopped to check on our dining experience as well. They even include "hot towel" treatment here which was a nice wrinkle in the service.
Now, the food was mostly incredible. We started with salads. I had the wedge and wife had the caesar. Both were incredibly fresh with great flavors and good dressing. For entree, I got the Strip with the Gorgonzola Fondue and wife chose the Salmon. We got Creamed Corn on the side. It was all damn near perfect. My wife is a Salmon "connoisseur" and says it was one of the best entrees of salmon she'd ever had, including olives and oven dried grapes for a unique flavor combo with a Greek influence. My steak was cooked well and I absolutely LOVED the fondue on the top. My issue was the seasoning. It was just far too strong. I am paying for an expensive piece of meat that I want to taste prepared well. I mostly kept sopping up more and more of the fondue with each bite to try to balance the absolute overpowering saltiness to the taste of the meat. Was it terrible? No. I still enjoyed the steak, but when you pay these rates I want perfect...
Read moreMy family and I had the opportunity to visit Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse. I would like to say that our dinner was fantastic! It was the best dinner ever! First and foremost we would like to express our deep gratitude to the entire team of the restaurant! The professionalism of the Del Frisco's restaurant team is extremely high, which is felt in every detail. As a result, such organization of work really created a place where you want to return again. The attention, competence and sincere smiles of the general manager Mr. Nick and assistant general manager Mr. Ty, the professionalism of our waiter Jake, phenomenal presentation of wine by the sommelier Mr. Joe, immediately gave us a great mood for the evening. The atmosphere of the restaurant combined with the interior resembled the frames of a good romantic movie. This is a place where you really want to spend the best moments. Of course, the design and unique taste of all dishes deserve special attention. Special thanks to the chef - Mr. Austin. The restaurant's dishes impress with presentation and the variety of flavors. We tried Shellfish Tower, Calamari, Wagyu Meatballs and Thick-Cut Bacon for starters and it was absolutely delicious! We highly recommended this! Our salads were fresh with a lot of flavor! For main course we ordered Tomahawk ( it was prepared to perfection), Dry-Aged Prime Strip( 45 day Dry-Aged Steak impressed everyone with unique flavors of walnuts and blue cheese) and Surf and Turf Filet( I love seafood and Filet and it was the perfect dish for me). If you like to add more flavor for your Steaks you should try sauces, Truffle butter, Garlic butter or Gorgonzola fondue! The taste of the steaks was perfectly complemented by the wine from the place visited by sommelier Mr. Joe. All dishes without exception were very tasty. The sides were nice to share. The Truffle Twice Baked potatoes were my family favorite. Deserts and drinks after dinner was the best what I had so far! My family and I had an amazing time at Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse, and we will definitely be back! If you looking for perfect place with absolutely delicious food and with professional staff it’s Del Frisco’s Double Edge Steakhouse...
Read moreThis was our first time dining at Del Frisco's and unfortunately we were not impressed. The service in the beginning of our experience was excellent, maybe a little too attentive. We were a larger party and were enjoying conversation but kept feeling pressure to place our order even though the restaurant was empty. However, the service changed after the food was served. We didn't see a single staff member for close to 10 minutes after our entrees were served. This was unfortunate since our mashed potatoes were not served along with our other sides.
Two of our water glasses had a white substance floating in them, they were changed out, however later on when our glasses were refilled several of us had the substance in our refills.
My daughter ordered the half roasted chicken and it was pretty dry, my mother in law had the shrimp cocktail and commented that it was stringy. I opted for the filet mignon and although it was delicious in flavor the steak was prepared somewhere between blue and rare when I requested it to be medium rare. When the mashed potatoes did finally arrive they were swimming in butter, they somehow were wet and dry at the same time. I doubt a restaurant of this quality serves instant mashed potatoes but honestly they tasted like doctored up instant mashed potatoes.
The cream spinach was excellent and several of us enjoyed the lobster mac and cheese. If you enjoy a strong blue cheese, like I do, the wedge salad is delicious. The house salad looked good but the whole strips of bacon laid across the top made it difficult to eat. The kitchen should consider chopping it like they do for the wedge salad.
One member of our party returned to the restaurant 5 minutes after we left to retrieve a plush she uses for back support and was told the pillow was not there. An odd situation since no one was seated by our corner table. It was obvious that a staff member must have taken the plush.
I love dining downtown and have never had a negative experience. I'll be crossing this place off my list since there are several restaurants with comparable menus that deliver a dining experience of...
