I do not usually write reviews online but I believe scrutinizing Millieās is worth my time.
Millieās, by far, has been one of the worst ice cream parlors that I have ever encountered. The most important lesson to take away from this review is: looks can be deceiving.
I have to give credit to Millieās on one thing. Itās appearance. Set in a historic area in Pittsburgh, this old-fashioned ice cream parlor grabs your attention. Youād think āwow, thatās promising! It must be good ice cream because how hard is it to have good ice cream when thatās youāre entire business model?ā
Well, Iām here to say that Millieās has found a way to produce an ice cream that is so low quality you would think a toddler made it. In fact, Iām not even sure if you can call it ice cream. When I ordered from there, I had the misfortune of tasting two of their flavors: coffee and dulce de Leche. When I took a bite, it made me forget what I ordered. I thought I lost my sense of taste because there was nothing to taste. Hands down the worst ice cream Iāve ever had (besides Carlās in Fredericksburg, VA). The best I can describe it without bashing it, is if you watered down an already watered down Halo Top low calorie pint of ice cream and then charged you $7 for two scoops.
Additionally, donāt expect Millieās toppings to bail out their failing ice cream. Usually, hot fudge is a rich, warm, and thick goodness invented to complement the cold ice cream. However, at Millieās this is far from it. To call Millieās lukewarm low caliber corn syrup as hot fudge would be an offense to JM Smucker and Milton Hershey themselves. I can not describe to you in words how shockingly terrible Millieās ālukewarm chocolate diarrheaā was. And to believe I had to pay extra for it was a true disgrace.
Not to mention that I originally wanted a milkshake but they were completely out of milk by 7:00 on a Sunday night. Last time I checked, milk is probably more important to have ready at an ice cream parlor than access to water. Just goes to show Millieās poor inventory management.
I would like to say to anyone roaming by this fraudulent parlor, stay away. ~99.00% of ice cream joints have exceptional ice cream. Millieās is a disgraceful anomaly that exists to steal $8 from tourists in exchange for expired chucks of milk. I donāt understand how this place gets so many great reviews. Either Millieās is using algorithms from the profit they made off selling you low quality ice cream or our society is slowly losing the standards...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI don't usually write reviews or use a google chromium account but I have to after going to millie's for the second time yesterday. I'm shocked that people even go there and that I feel tricked into going a second time after my first experience.
Firstly, please know that this establishment is a typical hipster parlor which means it's not about the food or service but mostly used as a hangout for hipsters and not families or regular people. They are also over priced with a poor mix of high sugar and a sour taste.
I went to millie's around a year ago and it was so bad with the problems listed above that I didn't wish to go back. I recently saw that millie's had got better with a different mix of ice cream and that they had changed staff that had hygiene issues.
The second time was even worse there was still no change to my original problems but I was greeted with a hair in my ice cream and the only thing I got back from the manager was "we only give refunds to people who natively live in Pittsburg." As an Asian American immigrant I feel they singled me out and embarrassed me because of my race. All I ask is for a refund and I will never go back there again and advise nobody else goes...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was my second time trying Millie's and first time going to their store. The ice cream is certainly rich and delicious. Personally for me I felt it was overly sweet. Almost to the point that it started to taste a bit like candy. The cream, and texture really won me over. You can certainly taste the homemade quality and the effort that they put into their ice cream. However it was not one of my favorite ice cream places that I've tried. Leopold still holds my heart in Savannah. That is truly one of the best ice cream experiences that I've had to date. While I do you like this location I don't think that it warrants the long lines. We had to wait quite long on a Saturday night around 7:30 PM. We tried the Vietnamese Coffee, Yuzuberry, and Chad's Vanilla Ice Cream. Also had the waffle cone. The Yuzuberry wasn't that great, felt lighter and less creamier than the other flavors. Also, I have to admit I miss Oh yeah that use to be in this location. My favorite combo was their sweet cream ice cream with fig and goat cheese mix in. Simply the best! I think if you are in the area you should...
