First and only other time eating at ljs was at this very location in the 2000's. Even back then it was absolutely horrifying and the food disgusting. The interior was decrepit and run down. ljs has become a running joke online, so I decided to see what was new.
The interior is about as run down as it wad before. They may have painted the ceiling tiled black, presumably to hide all the disgusting stains. Midmatched tile on the floor everywhere. Paper dispenser in the bathroom looks to date from the mid 90s or earlier with a manufacturer I have not seen for decades, in a shade of olive brown, and it wasnt a lever action one, it was the crank style. Havent seen that since the late 90s. Interior surfaces are clean though, and employees were actually wiping down tables and they were all spotless. Ironically, the poor condition of the building actually suits the brand well and presents a convincing experience of an old, decrepit, wood seaside seafood joint.
The food was just as horrific and disgusting as I remembered. The food is coated in a vaguely tempura like batter, but unlike tempura it does not have that flawless dry texture. Instead it somehoe soaks it up like a sponge. So every bite is this horrific taste of fishy, stale grease. Whatever you order will be 33% breading, 33% aquatic creature and 33% grease.
Employees were way too professional and hardworking to be here, especislly how they understaffed it. The company surely owns this piece of property outright because there is no way in hell they can remain in business otherwise. The clientele was also very different from any other fast food joint. Cant quite put my finger on it.
4/5 because it's good for a laugh
edit: November 2024. They are remodeling the store for the first time in probably a quarter century lol. $10 says it winds up like the Taco Bell and Popeyes rebrands, generic. High gloss white paint everywhere. Cold white led lighting, minimalist tables and benches. I also bet they get rid of the bell. With competition like this, no wonder I only go to captain d's on 15th st. It actually looks not too bad on the outside. But lets...
Read moreI used to eat at this location several years ago, and then I moved. When I moved back it was under construction, and was being renovated. After it reopened, I ordered the 2PC FISH MEAL with Green Beans, Cole Slaw, and Hushpuppies. Keke took my order, and helped me with my Seacret Society Rewards app. Then Crystal answered other questions I had. Dan brought the food to my table. He checked back with me, and the other customers who were dining in at 2 other tables, to make sure everything was ok. It was. Keke, Crystal, and Dan are courteous and professional employees. Also, a positive shout-out to everyone else in the kitchen. The food was good, and the remodeling makes this look like a new restaurant. UPDATE MARCH 20, 2025: I've eaten at this location a few more times since I left the previous review. I want to add Kattie, Brice, Bryanna, Na'cole, Dave, Lashavia, Katy, Jaden, and Tyree as additional team members who make this a wonderful place to dine. They all provide excellent customer service! Job well done! Thank you! UPDATE MAY 2, 2025: Kattie helped me with the app, and took my order. David, Alondra, Bryanna, and Felipe also helped, and made sure everything was good. My combination platters were delicious. They all contribute to keeping the restaurant clean. Thank you all! UPDATE JUNE 26, 2025: Na'cole helped me with the app, and took my order. She gave me 2 extra hushpuppies because of a problem in the app. Thank you! David cooked my 2 fish, fries, & hushpuppies perfectly. Joy, Bryanna, & Daisy G. also helped to make dining in a...
Read moreToday, Sunday, October 5, 2025, around 12:30 p.m., I ordered delivery online - through Grub Hub - from Long John Silver's in Plano, TX. When I opened my bag, everything was there EXCEPT the corn, which was one of the sides I ordered. Over the next hour, I tried to call numerous times. Every time I was greeted with a message that told me that my call was very important to them BUT all of their "associates" were busy helping other customers and I would have to call back. They didn't put me on hold, didn't let me leave a message for a callback, just hung up on me. After an hour or so, I gave up. Then about 4:25, I decided the "lunch rush" had to be long over, so I called again and got the same message!
This is the second time I've ordered delivery online from Long John Silver's. The first time was a year or so ago - that time, they gave me the wrong condiments; I had requested malt vinegar, but they sent tartar sauce (which I hate and never use) instead.
So two tries, and both times they messed up my order. And when I try to call, they don't take my call.
My late wife - who passed away from kidney disease in 2021 - and I used to eat at this location quite often on Sundays, on our way home from church. We've been good customers over the years.
However, they have now lost my business for good! Their phone message says that I am very important to them; their actions say...
