Buona has always been a reasonably solid "option-in-a-pinch" for Chicago beef if Portillos, Johnny's, or Al's were not nearby. Now, with the decline of Portillos, they'd almost be able to kick up to that top spot if not for one CRITICAL problem: the green olives in the giardiniera.
Green olives do not belong in giardiniera. Let me repeat: GREEN OLIVES DO NOT BELONG IN GIARDINIERA!
I don't like green olives, I admit that, but even if you do they don't belong. They overpower what is otherwise a delicately and perfectly balanced symphony. And they definitely belong NOWHERE NEAR an Italian beef. Ketchup on a hotdog? Forget it. Olives on an Italian beef is the far greater abomination. I'd sooner my naked body be slathered in ketchup and dunked in an above ground pool full of hotdogs than eat a single green olive with a hot beef.
It's like those pickles on a McDonald's hamburger. You're eating a hamburger (or at least some reasonable approximation of one) and then you hit that pickle... And from that point on you're just eating a pickle. Same with green olive giardiniera, but there's no margin around the periphery. It's all just olives.
Look Buona, I like you but I want to love you. Berkshire Hathaway Portillos has broken my heart, left me vulnerable. But I'm ready to love again. For God's sakes: give me a giardiniera option WITHOUT the...
Read moreFirst time here visiting family in town. Orderes 2 number ones which are beef sandwiches a fry and a drink. U can upgrade an onion ring and a shake for an additional charge. I donât eat fried food so I asked the cashier Trinity if I can substitute a salad instead she said âyesâ. Total came to $32 and we used a $10 gift card, so we paid $22. Got to the table looked over the receipt one meal was. $12.99 and other was over $16. I brought it back to the register and spoke to Trinity and she said it was extra and the ast manager Luis said itâs extra. My response was Trinity said it was included and that she did say that. Luis proceeded to say you got it for 12.99 (other sandwich) and not the one I was talking about. He said he could give money back. I said the one Iâm talking about is sold all Ă la cart and wasnât $12.99. He didnât offer me anything and didnât give refund either after cashier said it was her fault. Any manager would have said sorry for the misunderstanding and gave it. He was very passive aggressive. So he said it was extra and that was that. Food was good great but management handled it poorly.
Spoke to GM (KEN) after there meeting and he was very understanding and wanted us to have a better experience next time around. He did give us a comp card...
Read moreI was excited that there was a beef place finally in the Kenosha area but it continues to disappoint. I have only used the drive-thru and 3 of the last times my order was messed up. Last time I arrived home to feed the family only to discover I got someone else's order. Went back and into store and manager went out of his way to make things right. Tonight, however I asked for my combo sandwich to be dipped (when giving my order) and again when I went to the pay window where they acknowledged it was not and went away to dip the sandwich. I waited and then drove my food home only to find the combo sandwich was way too dry to eat, unlike previous visits (when order is right) that a dipped beef is not at all dry. Called the store, talked to the manager who took all the information and offered a credit for next time. Instead, a few minutes later I received a call from the individual who took my order and they contested the issue, repeatedly telling me my food was not dry! I couldn't believe that is their practice, challenge your customers and tell them what their experiencing is incorrect. IF you visit this location, I advise you to either eat in or pull apart your order in your car, before...
