Penzeys Spices — Local services in Kenosha

I give Penzeys 4 because I do enjoy coming here every year and smelling all sorts of things and pretending like I know what they do. Penzeys brand garlic powder and Mexican vanilla bean extract are my two favorite things here. The cinnamon sugar, powdered horseradish, and freeze dried bell peppers are also very pleasantly aromatic. If I had a more gifted or advanced culinary education and/or skillset, I'd likely give Penzeys 5 stars because I'd be able to better appreciate their products. As it stands, I can't tell you the difference between parsley, basil, sage, or oregano. So my understanding of what most of the spices and seasonings here can do to advance flavor is pretty much, minimal at best. Penzeys has a very reputable reputation and the quality is certainly there. The workers here a nice and occasionally there are some closeout items (they tend to be located by check out.) Love this store. The quality of the spices is the best. As you shop the spices they have sample jars that you can open to smell. There are several types of cinnamon and it's amazing how different they all are. (And how much better they are from the supermarket brands.) Yes, you will probably spend more than you expected here but you truly get what you pay for.

They also have spices packaged in gift boxes. The boxes have different themes - for the baker, for grilling, etc. They are also at a variety of price points. These sets are great for gifts. Small boxes for teacher gifts, larger boxes for a shower or wedding gift. And...

I love Penzey's. I love that I can find the spices I need for international dishes like curries and masalas. Plus, they tend to have great offers. Just the other day my mom and I bought a large garam masala and got two smaller spices for free along with a free sampling of the Tzars spice. Can't wait to give it a try in making my peroshkies. I especially love the smell of all the spices when you first walk in. Though with the pandemic ongoing, they are putting our safety first so you can only order online or call to order and pick up outside the store for now.
