Review by Daira Johnson of Canton, MI
I have been a loyal customer of Pitaway for quite some time, having visited several of their locations. Since moving to the Canton neighborhood, I was excited to continue enjoying their food at the Plymouth location. As an African-American family of five with young children (ages five, three, and one), the offer of two free kids' mini bowls with the purchase of an entree has been a great deal for us.
On my first visit, a staff member assured me that as long as I bought an entree, my kids would eat free. This policy, for kids 12 and under, seemed perfect for my family. However, our recent experiences have been disappointing and disheartening.
During our last visit, my husband and I spent over $40 on our bowls and four fountain drinks. While they did honor the free kids' bowls that time, the service we received was far from welcoming. The staff was rude, unhelpful, and made us feel uncomfortable. I had to wait several minutes just to get an extra side of sauce, and it was clear they did not want to assist us. We noticed a stark difference in their behavior towards other patrons, who were greeted warmly and received attentive service.
Despite giving Pitaway Plymouth several chances, our most recent visit was the final straw. When I ordered our usual, they charged me for the kids' bowls instead of honoring the free offer, even though my five and three-year-olds only get simple bowls (one with just rice, the other without meat and toppings). They showed no willingness to accommodate us, and their behavior suggested a bias, as we have consistently been treated differently than other customers.
This pattern of poor treatment and discrimination has led me to decide that I will no longer be patronizing Pitaway. It is disappointing to see a place I once loved become a source of frustration and discomfort...
Read moreEver since I tried Pita Way I never wanted to try any other Mediterranean place again. I typically get a bowl a week in Detroit from a different store but after trying this I am boycotting every other place. I love that they use yellow rice with almonds and raisins, and the topping I am actually addicted to.. is their CAROLINA REAPER AND GHOST PEPPER SEASONING. It makes this bowl taste 1000x better and now I'm battling an addiction with this store. Ive gotten this place doordashed a couple of times and even went in the store to order. Their soups are great, also great as a kicker, very neat how you can mix two soups, and even their falafel is spectacular. My go-to however is the breaded chicken.
Please try this place, you...
Read moreOh my this place is FANTASTIC! I went there for the first time today. I had heard such great things about their Livonia location so was thrilled when I heard one was opening local to me! I had no idea what to order, the fellow behind the counter was great at recommending items and letting me sample things I wasn’t familiar with. I went with all his recommendations and it couldn’t of been more delicious. They pickle their veggies in the store for extra freshness. It was so delicious. I had never tried pickled turnips or golden raise a in my rice before … but you can bet I’ll be doing that again. Total tastebud party in my mouth! Great food and friendly service. Such a great new spot for Plymouth! I can’t wait to...
