Not really sure how this place has received such high reviews. Here's my takeaway...
Ordered: Cerviche Barbacoa Tacos Korean Tacos Iced Tea Mojito
Total: $80+ w/ tip
Pros: Cerviche was pretty great. Definitely better than some of the others I've had in the area and nationally. There's a decent amount you're given and the flavors are great. Chips. They were nice and hot, weren't oily, and had good flavor
Decent: Salsa. Was ok, but nothing overly special. Felt like a standard restaurant salsa
Cons: Tacos. Very bland, very small, absolutely not worth $20 a plate. Rice. Basic restaurant adoba rice in which they just make a circle of it with a ramakin and add a few slices of cabage/radish on top to TRY and make it fancy Refried beans. Just a small ramakin of it, nothing special here. Dipping sauce. Literally it's just the grease/juice from whatever they cooked. Absolutely not great. -Mojito. We asked for a Mojito and got some blackberry concoction. While that's great and all, and it tasted ok, it wasn't what we ordered or told about ahead of time. Iced Tea. Granted unsweetened iced tea never is crazy good, but this one was just awful. Service. It was relatively slow, so more attention should have been paid. Our server started off by naming non-alcoholic drinks when I said "What do you have for drinks that aren't alcohol, which, understandable to get that confused but still. The menu also did not have any drinks listed. The person that paid more attention to our table was another server who constantly made sure we had chips and salsa, which was great. Once we had packed up our leftovers and the table was cleared, we sat around for probably 15 minutes before our server came back to give us the check. Absolutely zero reason for that.
In summary, Ocho Cafe feels like a restaurant that's offering mid to low-end food and trying to pass it off as a high-end dining experience with prices to match. 100% not worth it, especially since the portions you get are so incredibly small compared to other local area restaurants like Fiesta Charra, Jefe's Betta Bar & Grille, and Cancun. The only reason I'd even come back to this place is to maybe order the Cerviche...
ย ย ย Read moreLots of familiar chain restaurants in this Plymouth area but we chose Ocho because it was closest to the places we wanted to go that evening and the preview of their menu I viewed online offered some interestng selections not seen on most chain Mexican restaurants. I was intrigued, but honestly we were expecting the usual average meal, good but nothing more. We were pleasantly surprised! The food was far better than the "usual" and the presentations were very nice. You know, it's true...you eat with the eyes first. My husband ordered a carne asada chimichanga served with rice. I thought, oh-oh. I would never order that as the meat is usually tasteless and tough. But the meat in this chimi was so flavorful and tender. Even I liked it! The rice was good too. I ordered the Raja Taquito appetizer and a side of charro beans. Again, these were so much better than what I expected. The taquitos were like small crispy tacos filled with roasted poblanos, corn, potato, carmelized onions and cheese. Topped with cabbage, slices of avacado, and pico de gallo and a drizzle of cilantro crema. You can order a meat topping of your choice for an extra charge which I'm so happy I did. I chose pork and it was full of flavorful goodness. The charro beans I ordered on the side were just brothy enough and delicious. I said this was an appetizer, but the three taquitos were a meal for me. I shared a bite or two with my husband and even brought one home that I rejivinated in the air fryer the next day. I only ordered the charro beans because I thought the appetizer of taquitos wouldn't fully satisfy me, but it was plenty. Even so, I am so glad I ordered the beans too because they were excellent.
The servers and staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is warm even though the dining room is large. The South-of-the-border decor is colorful but not overdone. Our only regret...we have to drive an hour and a half to get there from where we live on Cape Cod. โน You can bet we'll be dining at Ocho the next time we do a...
ย ย ย Read moreOcho Cafe, a Mexican restaurant. The restaurant itself is beautiful, very homey, it really does make you feel like that you are in Mexico. Right when you walk in, you get seated and are given some chips and salsa. The salsa is delicious, and it has a little bit of cilantro which just gives it that burst of flavor that everyone desires in food. The chips, although homemade, needed salt, honestly they were flavorless. For my entree I ordered the mango club quesadilla, which has cheese, mango, bacon, avocado, and chicken. The quesadillas looked delicious and came with a cheese sauce. They may have seemed delicious, but it did need just a little bit more flavor. The main thing that was tasteless was the chicken. The chicken was cooked perfectly, it was nice and juicy, but it needed some seasoning, even if it was just salt pepper, and a little lime. Now the thing that made it a mango club, the mango. the mango was amazing, and really brightened the dish. My only problem with it was that I would have preferred if the mango was cut smaller so you could have some mango every few bites, but this was a matter of my preference, and it is not a big deal and wouldnt really affect anything if they don't change it. Anyways, I recomend Ocho Cafe for anyone who wants lunch at a place with decent food. It's a new restaurant that needs some improvement, but it has a lot of potential, and I cant wait to see how...
