I had high hopes for this place, as it was the only place that served Menudo at that time of the morning in Pocatello. I should've cut & ran when I noticed the smell of a sewer back-up, when I got to the counter. Then, the cashier couldn't understand English. I was doing my best to use hand gestures in asking how big their soup bowls are. She had to grab someone from the back, who was just as (in)fluent in English, but apparently understood hand gestures a bit better. Anyway, between waiting for our meal for about a half an hour, the loud music and patrons, the odor, that wasn't the end of a bad dining experience. The menudo lacked tripe, was more broth than anything else. The little platter of condiments that most Mexican restaurants serve with menudo, here consisted of the scrap-ends of onion and a smidge of cilantro (?). No oregano, no lime, no chili-flakes. Really was unimpressed with the service, the wait, the atmosphere and especially the quality of food. If I didn't know any better, I'd say this place could just be a 'front' for something else going on, because food is not their specialty. No, I would not recommend or return...
Read moreGo now , support this treasure . This is the best taco shop in poky . Let me explain . I'm from San Diego and have eaten at Taco shops all over Mexico , and all over southern California. This is as close to a Taco Shop on the border as you can get . Meats are proper cuts cooked in the correct traditional style . Salsas have flavor and aren't watered down . Salsa Bar is always a good sign , pickled onions and spicy carrots point to a winner. Tortillas taste homemade, and the crema is fresh ! Now let's get to the Agua Frescas... They are your classic selection , and typical style / quality . Very good though.
Most importantly everything tastes fresh . Fresh tomatillo , tomatoes , onions , cilantro you can absolutely tell . Several shops in town let the carne sit in a pot of liquid and even boil it to cook . NOT HERE .
I cannot stress enough how great of a shop this is , and I love we're ball going to have to learn the names of what we want in Spanish ! Please keep this place around it's a little on the pricey side for pokey but well...
Read moreFood wasn't great. Service was even worse. My girlfriend ordered the carne asada fries and the beans tasted like they were canned, and the fries were soggy. I ordered the shrimp burrito and the inside was really good but the tortilla was tough and hard to chew. Regarding the service, they had to remake my girlfriends order because they gave her order to a table that had arrived after us. The family was nice enough to offer it to us considering it was her order, but they had told her they were going to remake it and we didn't want to bother. We had ordered well over 5-10 minutes before anyone else in the resturant at that point. The place itself was not very clean and the cooler was not stocked. I don't expect a resturant that just opened to be perfect, but this was a...
