I wish I had a picture, but I will defenitly get one next time! The food just looked so delicious that I had to dive right in! I don't make reviews that often unless it's REALLY worth posting a review for, and this place is SO worth it. The wait wasn't long, about ten minutes, we were seated fairly quickly, and the waitress actually made sure there was a HUGE JUG OF WATER AT OUR TABLE! IT WAS SPECTACULAR! Now, I drink alot of water, so it was nice that I could pour it myself from the jug when I wanted it. It was my boyfriend and I's, first time at this restaurant, but I've read and heard nothing but great things! This place has so many HEALTHY items to choose from and also (not so healthy),for those that still want their bacon and fat.
I couldn't decide what I wanted, between the avocado toast, to the egg white omlette so I decided to get both! The waitress was so kind enough, instead of having the fruit preserves for my toast, I could sub out for avocado, and I got some of their seasoned potatoes on the side! My boyfriend couldn't decided either for a bit, and he finally decided on some cheese grits, turkey gravy and biscuits, with some scrambled eggs. He even got a glass of their fresh hand squeezed orange juice! Let me tell you, ALL of the food was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Not only was it made quickly, but it was presented nicely, and the waitress even put salt, pepper, and Tabasco sauce on the table without us even having to ask! We didn't even have to ask for ketchup either!
If you are looking for a brunch place, look no further! Their prices are VERY reasonable, and the food IS filling! My boyfriend and I, only spent about 32$ for both of our meals and extra sides, and the glass of orange juice he got! That's the same price we would have spent at waffle house, or IHOP, and we have SO MANY MORE CHOICES TO CHOOSE FROM! I haven't seen many breakfast places around Newport News have classic favorites like biscuits and gravy, bacon, eggs, waffles and pancakes, but also healthier options that aren't mainstream like avocado toast, salmon cream cheese bagels, eggs Benedict, and more! It's so much I could have asked for and more!
The only reason I couldn't give this review five stars was because the noise level was a little loud, but the food and atmosphere is still worth going! If anyone is hesitant to try this place for the first time, please give it a try! You will not be disappointed. If it was a little quieter, it defenitly would get five stars!
If I could really describe this restaurant it's like... Comfortable meets classy, delicious, and elegant culinary creations that I would find in a more fine dining establishment, but can...
Read moreIn general, First Watch is a good restaurant. Good atmosphere, friendly staff, and tasty food. With that being said, today’s experience was completely contradictory. Upon arriving, we waited around 45 minutes to be seated, but that’s to be expected on Sunday around noon. After being seated, we ordered coffees and water and gave the waitress our order. The water came out, and upon a closer look, contained many floating particles throughout the container, as well as harboring a strange smell. The coffee was alright; we were not given a very generous amount and it tasted bitter. Unfortunately, the waiter was nowhere to be found for the next 40 minutes in order to change out our water. But after the wait, we were served our food and were able to exchange our water. This is were the most negative part of the meal started. I order the lemon ricotta pancakes, fully expecting a delicious meal, but was sorely disappointed instead. The pancakes were dry, overcooked, and the taste was average at best. Additionally, the pancakes contained barely any ricotta despite the menu making it seem as though it would have a noticeable amount. The ricotta was barely noticeable because there was such a small quantity. The lemon curd served on top was also average—it tasted as if it came from a can, which it very well may have. The pancakes themselves were both dry and obviously overcooked on one side, which were flipped over to hide the fact. Additionally, the two eggs that I order extra were done well, but came in a very small portion. Now all of this wouldn’t be as bad, but for $10 pancakes, you would expect them to be at least above average. They were not. My whole mean came out to be $18.69, which is incredibly expensive for such a disappointing meal. The eggs (which seemed like there was only one of) turned out to be $4 and the bitter 8oz of coffee was $3. Everything was certainly overpriced for such small servings and a lack of quality. My friends were also disappointed in the meal as a whole. Altogether, I’ll never order another pancake nor coffee from First Watch again, and I’ll be a bit more careful to make sure I’m not cheated out of a portion. Again, I’d like to say that First Watch is typically a good restaurant, but this experience had so many negative parts that I felt compelled to...
Read moreBe wary if you have food allergies. I left frustrated, disappointed, embarrassed and mad.
We dined in at 11 am on 5/22. After looking at their allergen menu and asking the waitress some questions, which she, in turn, asked the kitchen, I felt pretty confident that I could eat here. I ordered my food and requested that my allergens be left off. The food came out with my allergen, dairy, in the form of sour cream and with hollandaise sauce which wasn't listed on the menu. The hollandaise sauce was probably added due to me being asked if it could be cooked like an omelet and not put in a burrito. However, it still had sour cream which was requested to not be added to the dish.
I sent it back and asked for no sour cream or hollandaise sauce. My entree returned to me without sour cream but it still had Hollandaise sauce. The waitress assured me that the kitchen staff told her there was no dairy in the hollandaise sauce.
My husband leaves the table and asks the waitress to double-check the ingredients in the hollandaise sauce. She came back saying that it did indeed contain my allergen.
At this point, we requested that the entree be removed from our bill and she obliged. Once we were finished we opted to pay for our food with our phone via a QR code on the receipt.
As we were walking to our car, another staff member, who was not our waitress, yelled at us across the parking lot that we forgot to pay for an item on our bill. That item was the food they removed from our bill. There were people going in and out of the restaurant and people eating in the outside dining area who all just witnessed this happen. Now I'm not only frustrated, disappointed and hungry, I'm embarrassed publically and mad.
I feel as though their staff needs to be retrained in customer service. Also, their kitchen staff needs to be retrained on how to manage food allergies. As their menu clearly states they would be happy to accommodate guests with food allergies.
Today could have been medically threatening to me and not one manager even addressed it with me. I was sorely disappointed with...
