Let me start off by saying WOW! What a change! We had been to plaza prior to the shift in management and they have done a complete 180 since the last time we went. We arrived appropriately 8:30 pm on the day of their 25th anniversary. Immediately we were seated and met by our waitress Stephanie. She was extremely kind and while greeting us we were provided chips, salsa and dip by another server while she collected our drink orders. The vibe in the atmosphere was very relaxed and although very busy, everyone was happy and carefree. We placed our orders and were notified that the wait may be a little longer than usual because of the celebration, which was expected, but the courtesy notification was greatly appreciated. Stephanie made sure to keep us taken care of and even the new manager, Julio, made sure to stop by our table to thank us for coming in and supporting the special occasion. He let us know they ran out of shirts but wanted to make sure we had a keepsake of this day and provided us with custom wine glasses take home. The food was great! Birria tacos were full of flavor! Ceviche was tasty & the beans & rice were definitely a hit for the whole family. We are excited to see the change and only see great things for plaza here forward. We Definitely now recommend! Bravo!!!!

Went for a celebratory lunch. Place was basically deserted. Ordered fajitas and the OMG Nachos. Fajitas were hot and sizzling and came with plenty of beans, rice and pico de gallo on the side. Nachos were luscious looking with chicken, chorizo AND bacon on them as well as pico de gallo and sour cream. Unfortunately about halfway through the plate I found a weird red hair in one of the nachos. Tried to look past it and keep the good mood going so didn't say anything, but two nachos later another red hair appeared in the chip I just bit off half of. Brought it to the waiter's attention and at first he kind of hemmed and hawed about whether it was hair or plastic and said something about there not being any female employees in the kitchen. Finally we got him to realize that regardless if what it was or wasn't or who it was from it wasn't food so he offered another order which we took to go. Until I lost my appetite it was fabulous. Also the glasses for our drinks were spotted with rinse water. Given the emptiness of the place there is plenty of opportunity to pay closer attention to details. One error would have made it four stars, but the combination of hair in the food and the dirty glassware makes it a very generous three stars.

There's ZERO chance that your Don Julio 1942 wasn't cut. Not pinning blame on the bartender, managers, or whoever, but 1942 has a distinct nose and flavor unlike any other. I made the decision to come there and I will tell everyone to beware of buying their high end liquor, because it's not what it seems. I was insulted by the manager, Julio, saying I didn't know what I was talking about because I was drinking tequila. Well, Julio, fact is, I haven't had tequila since before the pandemic and was looking forward to my first drink of the night, (as you recall, I pushed all that was poured aside as you threatened to call the police?) Stay away if you want what you actually order, because otherwise you will end up in an argument with someone who's trying to cover their ass. (Not to mention you never, EVER, serve 1942 like a shot with salt and lime in a shot glass, but in a rocks glass, either neat or on the rocks, because it tastes like a WHISKEY).

Ok I will start by saying that Plaza up until last night was one of my favorite places to go. So i went with some friends and family members. We all got shots of patron in celebration and when they came to give us the check the waiter tried charging one of my friends with shots of patron that he didn’t get. Which I though ok maybe they accidentally put someone else’s shot on his tab.....but no everyone else was charged also. My friend tried explaining to the waiter that he has too many shots on his tab and the waiter wants to argue about it. So we literally had to count the shot glasses that were on the table to account for everything. So after a few minutes the waiter went to change the tab. That’s not the worst part of the whole situation though. My sister gave me a graduation card in a envelope and my other friends gave me a Visa gift card. I put the Visa gift card in the envelope with my graduation hallmark card. I sat it on the table. We got up to leave around 9:30 pm after having been there since 6pm. I had too much to drink so I left my car in the parking lot and got a ride with my sister. We was driving down the road for 5 minutes and I said I forgot the card on the table. So we went back to plaza we got back in the building around 9:45. The table was already cleaned off and everything. So I asked the person working there did they see the envelope on the table with the card and gift card in it. He said no one has seen it. So he gets his manager and the manager comes out and says people leave stuff all the time so we probably threw it away and they have a lot of trash. So I said it’s only been 10 minutes if you threw it away it should be right on the top of the trash because they were not that busy. So he goes to the back for about 5 minutes and comes back with my envelope soaked with garbage juice and hands it to me.( I don’t know why you throw something away immediately when someone leaves things. Since it looks like something people would come back for). I open it up and the hallmark card is there but the visa gift card is not. So I explained to him the visa gift card is missing so he calls this lady named Maria over since she is the one who cleaned the table and she said she didn’t see a giftcard. So the manager tells me I will look at the video and see what happened. He proceeded to leave at 9:55. So we are waiting there and someone else comes and says the manager is busy so you have to come back later. My sister almost lost it and I told her he was supposed to be watching video. The manager comes back at 10:50 and says the video shows Maria reading the card but he didn’t see a gift card. So I asked him did the video show her taking the card out the envelope to read it and he said he didn’t know. So you are telling me you have her on video reading the card but you can’t watch the video to see right before she read the card? At this point I believe he is covering for his employee. So I told the manager that if you have people working for you that are willing to steal from the people who spend money there than more than likely she is stealing from the business. My sister did a Police report and we left. So the moral to this long story is don’t leave anything there for 10 minutes because they are going to take the vaulables and throw it in the trash. That’s a great...

Plaza Azteca, Restaurant located at 12099 Jefferson Ave, Newport News, VA 23606 was far the worst experience I had to witness and endure dinner out. The waiter Erick , was rude and Relentless . We found hair in one of our dishes serve to us and we report to Erick the waiter. He became very debative disrespectful and disregard us and then stood standing at our dining booth and wouldn’t move as if we were going our run out on tap he became very rude disrespectful in front of my child and also began fondle and touch himself and his man breast in front of my child he relentlessly would not move away from our dining both to allow us to enjoy or finish our meal after he was no longer need he just stood there arguing and Harassing us. I believe he was intoxicated because his behavior was unfamiliar Narcissistic ,we ask him to move away several times he said he had a right to stand there and continue was hover over seat area and was very deliberated and confrontational in his actions this took place in front of my child and family. We went right across room to the manger Martin Cisneros for assistance and report this behavior and he also witness this because he was in dinning area, this is unacceptable behavior the manager was very nonchalant and didn’t do anything about the complaint this took place on 3/16/2019 around closing time As the manager proceeded to process our bill he overcharged us for our meals and was very rude and there was no consideration about the hair that was in our food. We had to go a bunch of changes to get the correct amount when it was clearly on menu and he then asked look at food as if we were lying about what we had the waiter Erick put in wrongful amount once manger view our to go boxes and food and he saw we were telling truth and he still disregard us . I’ve took out a police report today on the waiter that was touching hiim self in public in front of my child while being intoxicated during work. What an awful and very rude disrespectful experiences I will never dine there again and I warn others to be aware of this awful treatment behavior impose on us and not to dine there . If I could give no...

I really don't give this restaurant a review. I felt like we were discriminated against. When we walked into the restaurant no one spoke to us the lady looked right at us and kept tending to her business. Okay didn't pay that any mind. So then another lady came over and she said how many we said 9. So as the lady was taking us to a table which would have been large enough for us the manager spoke in Spanish stopped her and she ended up moving us by the bar seating area. Okay didn't think nothing of it at that time. Now mind you it's not crowded in there, So we proceeded to the bar area with our children. So as we begin to sit my bestfrind ask could they slide the tables together because she wanted everyone to sit together. So the manager came out and said no they could not slide the the tables together. So my befriend proceeded to ask why because we were already sitting beside each other just at different tables. He stated due to social distance they could not slide the tables together. So I said I understand and I told the manager we will go ahead and find some where else thank you now mind you I'm being polite, So we proceeded to leave and find another place to eat so we all could sit at one table not separate then as we were leaving the manager blurts out THANK GOD!! I looked at him and just shook my head. Now as we are leaving it's another black couple walking in with a friend meaning it was only 3 of them we saw them go in while we were getting in the car and as we got in the car the 3 black people turned around and left back out so we proceeded to ask them what happened. They explained that no one greeted them and the lady at the front just looked at them and they told them that they could not be seated...smh...see at first I thought it was just us because our party was to big. But then when I got their response and how they were treated I was like okay.. So this was just our experience I can't speak on other people experience because I have eaten here before and had no problems. I don't know what was different about this Monday maybe they had a bad day. But all in all we found a restaurant that did sit...
