Salty Dog Saloon — Restaurant in Port Aransas

This place is not very welcoming if you do not look like them.. I’m not sure how to put that without sounding racist. I visited last week, went with my husband and my son who was visiting from TN . We went out on our last night to have a couple of drinks and play pool and whatnot.. we’ll we were greeted by a cute dog but the bartender wasn’t as nice, she’s an older long haired lady, heavy set maybe has silver hair. I remember her bc she mentioned it was her birthday last week and she had just returned from a 10 day vacation. I overheard her as I waited on my drink… when I finally ordered I asked her for a drink and she mentions her “Famous Salty dog drink” it sucked so I ordered a pineapple and Malibu. We’ll let me tell you within 45 minutes I was ready to go home bc I was feeling ill.. very nauseous lots of diarrhea and ended up vomiting in the middle of the night and I mean alot! Then my husband tells me when he ordered my drink she was smelling the pineapple juice. I was like wasn’t she was just gone 10 days and made me a drink w old juice.

Now I did forget to mention that I overheard her talking about us to other people at the bar bc they kept staring at us while playing pool. The song had just ended and I guess she hadn’t noticed that she was talking loud enough until she noticed i was staring at her.. she quickly turns around and they all get quiet. We visit Port A maybe 2 or 3 a year and never ever have we’ve been treated this way & will never return to this bar. The bar is responsible for not marking the cans when opened.. maybe a call to the food inspector may have them follow basic...

I've been here quite a few times and this time was not good. It was a Thursday night and the place was busy busy. We had a nice sized group of us but we were able to get a table right away.

There was 1 bartender, who was female and killing it, and a bar back. One employee who was off that night jumped in to try to help her but it was too late. Drinks took forever..... We decided to order 2 at a time so we wouldn't have to come back for a little bit

Our group made the mistake of leaving tabs open and when we tried to cash out after 20-30 minutes of standing in line they informed us their system was down and they would need to re-swipe credit cards. I did not have my husbands card so I left the line. It says they will automatically charge you 20% on walked tabs which was well worth having to get back in that line.

Be aware this place does not have tip top service and with the summer months coming up it might...

It’s one of tha better bars in port a one of tha only that has karaoke on certain nights and a DJ other nights they have a couple pool tables but they’re kinda right in tha mix of everything so on a busy night might be tough to play they have tables that spread apart throughout tha bar with a dance floor but it’s really an open floor plan not much separates one from tha other two bars but only one that’s open on most nights and they also have an outside sitting area all in all it’s a fun place popular summer will like it others won’t jus depends on your taste I could spell out every detail but you never know until you try it I myself frequent Bernie’s beach house but do go to tha dog from time to time jus my preference nothing...
