My husband and I went here yesterday. TELLOS is the BEST place we have had Mexican food. I have lived in Arizona and Texas for a good majority of my life, so I am used to authentic Mexican food. We have tried numerous Mexican restaurants and we have always left disappointed. There was absolutely nothing to be disappointed about with the food we received here. We sat down and within minutes, we were given a bottle with water, followed directly with chips(dusted with chili spice) and salsa. We didn't have to share the salsa as we were each given a dish with salsa.
My husband ordered the Chimichanga plate with shredded beef. I ordered the Chili rellenos. This is how I test the restaurants we eat at. My food was cooked properly and deep fried, none of that flat egg omelet wrapped about partially stuffed chilies, covered with what resembled enchilada sauce (which is what I am used to being served). I was beyond happy when I saw how my meal was prepared.
The rice and beans were excellent too. The salsa fresca was on spot and even had radish slivers in it. Anyone, who has eaten authentic Mexican food or even been to Mexico, knows radishes are pretty much included in items. As a matter of fact, their rice was a lot better than I can cook. The plates are full of food and we took home what we couldn't eat.
I also ordered a margarita on the rocks, which was very very good. You could easily drink several margaritas and forget you were hungry.
If you're in the mood for Mexican food, you're one and only stop should be TELLOS !!!! We rated TELLOS a 10 out of 5 stars. That's how good the food was. The STAFF was excellent too. Darian was our server and she was on top of everything. She served us promptly and came by numerous times to see if we needed anything. I cannot say enough great things about this place.
Very excellent Mexican food and their menu is not just limited to Mexican food. It has a variety of food, breakfast's meals, burgers, Gyros etc.
My only issue I have and it has absolutely no reflection on TELLOS food or staff. I view my world from a wheel chair. The ramp outside is very narrow. I only had a couple of inches clearance on either side of my wheel chair. The building is old and they really dont have the room to extend the width of the ramp. So, its a minor inconvenience but I glad I didn't have more than one margarita.
We can not say enough good things about TELLOS. This will definitely be where we go for Mexican food. We will be back and maybe I'll try some of the breakfast dishes but it will be a while as I have a list of meals I am going to try, Next visit will be the Shrimp fajitas.
Don't pass this place up. Stop in and enjoy a great meal and...
Read moreAfter a long weekend of loving Port Washington and eating great, we had sunday breakfast at Tellos. We didn't want to partake of the free hotel breakfast and it's really bad coffee, so ventured out, saw cars and foot traffic in front of Tellos, and wandered in.
Service was very slow, and our server's english was spotty. That, by itself, is not an issue, if everything else had gone well.
Everything else did not go well.
Their coffee was every bit as bad as the hotel coffee. The honey that I asked for and didn't receive might have helped, but... doubtful. Only non-dairy creamers on the table, asked for milk or cream for my wife's coffee, was told they didn't have any. REALLY?? Breakfast at a restaurant in Wisconsin, dairy capital of the USA, and... no milk or cream for the coffee.
Ordered a simple breakfast sandwich. Eggs over hard. Received simple breakfast sandwich, yolk oozing out of all sides, making impossible to pick up, turning bagel to mush. I could not eat it. I sent it back. I don't ever send food back, and at this point we'd been there for a very long time, and I didn't WANT to be there any longer but... couldn't make myself eat it. ended up waiting for a couple of scrambled eggs (having learned from my first attempt to get 'em over hard) and toast.
Picked up my plate to move it, after getting breakfast# 2, felt hard food remains on the underside of the plate, quite a bit of it actually. Tried not to think about it, and just ate the food.
Wife's breakfast, some kind of caramel nut french toast thing LOOKED great when they brought it out. It was cold. the bread was chewy, almost hard. My daughter's silver dollar pancakes were apparently fine. She's five, and there was butter and some kind of syrup. She was happy.
Our bill came with starlite mints, after what seemed like a lifetime. We paid it and fled. In the car, we popped the mints in our mouths, and... they were old, so old that they were soft on the outside... We just started laughing at this point, the experience had been so bad from start to...
Read moreTonight, my family and I visited for our grandma's birthday and we had the absolute worst experience with service on a somewhat slow evening. Our waitress's name was Brooke, and aside from her taking nearly 10 minutes each time we asked for something, she also forgot to tell me the kitchen was out of what I ordered until everyone else's food came out. So there I sat, while everyone else's food got cold, waiting for the kitchen to make something on the fly. Never mind the fact that I was never offered a menu to look at again so I could pick what I wanted, I was just expected to know off-hand even though I had never eaten there before. She gave us every excuse for why she didn't bring the extra napkins that we asked for, or why we had to ask a busser for my mother-in-law's soda that she ordered before we got our food, or why service was so slow. We had to ask for the bill and when she left to get it, she made her annoyance clear even though we had sat there for over a half hour with her passing by occasionally, with our leftovers boxed up. After bringing us the bill, we realized we were charged for the dinner that the kitchen was out of because she never removed it from the bill, and tried to give us a gift card of the amount that we were overcharged, claiming that because of a new system they couldn't refund the money right away. Then she also made a point to say, "Well you guys have talked down to me this entire meal," and, "I've been a waitress for 25 years, this just happens sometimes." Umm......she was hardly around enough for us to even talk to her as if we were those kind of people, but fortunately, we are not. We were frustrated, yes, but polite because none of us were raised without manners. Yes, mistakes happen because we all are only human, but it's the way they are handled is what counts. And we were treated like garbage. As high of hopes as I had for our meal and night, my husband and I will never be back again because of that one server. My sincerest apologies, but your waitstaff needs...
