40 LBS Coffee + Bar — Restaurant in Portland

Gorgeous aesthetics here. I love the wood, the furniture, large windows & light. Great ambiance. It's close to perfect. I just wish they used Oatly for their lattes, not Pacifica. It's a shame because they serve Coava coffee! And I've to dilute that awesome coffee with subpar oat milk. (Califia is also a better option.) PDX Coffee Club across the street serves great coffee AND Oatly so I also go there but the interior of 40LBs is truly hard to beat.

I've changed my 5 stars to a 4 because I've had some really bad coffee at one of their other locations recently. Sloppily prepared and barely warm. Coffees eg lattes should be hot,...

Walked into their other location first and didn't see much food selection. Decided to come to this location 2 blocks south. It's fantastic and much better!

Spacious, airy, and inviting ambiance. Good selection of snacks/food. The avocado toast tasted great. I went mid morning but they also have a cocktail bar for afternoons and evenings.

I got an iced mocha which had a good mixture of espresso and chocolate tastes.

Rock music was unfortunately loud but staff was welcoming.

Edit: On a subsequent visit, I got the salad roll and it was HUGE! I would prefer smaller and cheaper...

I sat at the bar for 15 minutes while there was hardly any other customers there and three employees moved in and around in front of me around the bar. One lady playing with a large container of chocolate sauce and finally I said I’m sorry am I supposed to order a drink from someplace other than the bar? She said yeah you have to go around to the cash register and order there. I asked for a bloody Mary because it looked like they had a full bar based on all the liquor bottles in front of me and she said they couldn’t do that because they don’t have tomato sauce....
