I've been here quite a few times. I've spent good money, I've bought gift cards here and have suggested it to friends and family. I won't any longer. Just like other reviews, the employees watch you like a hawk and follow you around. We've always just brushed it aside, but this last visit was out of line. We were at the Rose Festival and parked in the garage next to their store, so we decided to stop by on the way back. We had a few kids with us. As soon as we walked in we got dirty looks. The kids are well behaved and did nothing wrong. We weren't even in there long enough for them to do anything. My fiance tried looking in a drawer, which you're allowed to do, and one of the workers gave him a dirty look and as she walked across the store, turned her head to continue looking at him until she couldn't anymore. It was extremely rude. I understand that things have changed in Portland and understand there's a lot of theft, but I highly recommend to this business to train their employees to not assume that every customer that walked in is going to steal from you. Our household income is above average and we would never steal, especially at a small business, you just lost not only mine and my finances business, but my sisters and her husband's too. We're rockhounders and collectors and are disappointed that this business chooses to treat their customers this way. We will not be back.
I appreciate the response, but you have us mistaken for a different customer. We had 4 kids and all of the employees noticed and my fiance did not look in a cabinet marked employees only. We've been to the store several times before and know what we can and cannot look at. Even if he did, is the appropriate action from an employee to glare at a customer and make them feel unwanted vs what other stores do and have their employees politely go up to the customer and tell them that drawer is for employees only? Again, I understand the theft that has occurred, I grew up here and have seen the change. I highly recommend a retraining of staff on what to do and how to react to customers before you lose more. It's frankly sad to read the other low...
Read moreMy mom, older sister and I are super into metaphysical stores, crystals, jewelry, and love to spend a rare free day making stops at many locations around Portland. This was a store we had not yet visited, and we were very excited to visit and shop!! Upon walking in, my hopes were high - their stock is phenomenal and unique and I could’ve lost myself in there for hours. Unfortunately this magical feeling was lost when I asked to see a few rings in a case. I had my eyes on a few I liked, but I wanted to pick them up and try them on to see if they resonated with me. I felt that the saleswoman helping me was too expectant, I felt rushed and was ultimately unsuccessful trying to find a ring I liked while under her supervision. She asked if I had been in before, I responded I hadn’t, and she suggested that I might have more luck shopping for rings by size. I was not interested in that - I was interested in shopping for a specific crystal, which is why I asked to see that specific case. From behind, she approached my mom who had been browsing, and tried to ask if she needed help. It is not a comfortable shopping experience to have employees walking up behind you and checking in on you. I understand shoplifting rates must be high in a place like this, with so many little valuable pieces on display, but the demeanor of this woman put all of us off and we walked out without purchasing anything. It was a disappointing way to end our crystal shopping route :( Maybe I will return on a different day and have a better experience, but for now I’m not interested in going back. Which is saying something, I fell in love with so many...
Read moreI went here to treat myself for my birthday and while I enjoyed the wide variety of rocks to choose from, I was incredibly disappointed when I came home to discover all the price stickers had been applied with some kind of putty that is now stuck on my rocks. It's gross, sticky, and now I have to figure out how to clean the rocks I just spent over $125 on.
Not only this, but most of the staff were quite rude and unwelcoming. We were not approached at all until one of them snatched a rock we wanted to buy right out of our tray and scolded us for not leaving its empty box on the display because he "needed to know what to replace". Then later as I was quietly talking to my wife and said, "Wow I wonder what that is", a woman loudly snapped "It's treated calcite" before turning away in a huff. Then later at the register she was coughing with no mask while handling our items and was snippy with us the whole time.
I regret not reading the reviews (and especially the responses TO reviews, yikes!) before I went to this store, because I wouldn't have wasted my time and money. I'm sure whoever responds to this will take great pleasure countering each of my complaints, but know that this review isn't for you -- its for the folks who want to be treated like human beings. It's for the real rock enthusiasts that don't want nasty putty on their delicate crystals. Save yourself the trouble, go...
