Angoor is a fun new self-pour wine bar in an up-and-coming section of outer Fore Street. The self-pour aspect is novel for Portland, and is a blessing and a curse. I'll just put this out there...I have absolutely no willpower. You give me a wine card with unlimited pours and I treat it like an open bar wedding. Heck, eventually I might even dance.
So here's how it works: You link your credit card to a wine card, and then have free rein to all 32 offerings around the bar. All are available in 2, 4 or 6 ounce pours, and there is a pamphlet with detailed descriptions of each. These are finely curated selections from around the world that I haven't seen before. So if you're hoping for Josh or Whispering Angels, this may not be the bar for you. When you finish your wine, you just go back up and pour a new one. Prices are clearly labeled for each wine, with 6 ounce pours ranging from $9 to over $24 (for the very high end wines). The option for 2 ounces is a great opportunity to sample luxury, and then buy the bottle retail if you love it.
Angoor also partners with the nearby Cheese Shop to construct some of the best charcuterie boards in the city. These are very generous portions and the perfect accompaniment to the wine. Empanadas and other shareables are coming soon.
The atmosphere is classy with various tables, couches and bar stools for seating. It's an attractive space to drink far too many fancy wines. But there is an elephant in this room. When you cash out on the tablet, the dreaded tip options appear of 15%, 20%, or 22%. With self pour, by definition, you're doing all of the work. Especially if you didn't get food. So what are you tipping on? This is an awkward end to an otherwise fantastic experience. My solution is to just drink so much wine that you no longer care. Luckily, Angoor makes it very...
Read moreWe were searching for a place that did charcuterie and stumbled upon Angoor for our date night. We loved it - everything from the atmosphere to the food to service was excellent. We were the last table inside and got a chance to speak with the owner and she was absolutely wonderful. We love that the owner served us and was there doing the work.
The food was outstanding. I was expecting a frozen flatbread for the pizza but it was this delicious fig, goat cheese and prosciutto on a delicious baguette. I think this pizza was actually my favorite part of the meal. The prosciutto bites were also very delicious. The charcuterie board was a good size and was great. It was served with a fig spread and honey. Would love to see maybe a roasted garlic spread in addition to this in future and maybe some rotating special cheeses? They just opened up in May 2024 so I know they have a lot more excitement to come and we look forward to coming here again.
Did I also mention that they have a pour your own wine system? It was really lovely - I had the Barra Pinot Noir which was quite nice. You can select different pour sizes and they have liek 32 different bottles ro something to choose from and they are always rotating. Great place for winos to sample different bottles and to graze.
The ambience is really cute as well. Marble top tables with gorgeous velvet/corduroy seats and gold embellishments. Definitely great for a date night, after work drinks and nibbles and girls wine night Wednesdays, rehearsal dinners and work gatherings/parties. There is an outdoor area - however, it is mid fall and was very chilly so the tables are not outside but this will be a great spot in winter but even more fun in summer when they utilize this outdoor space.
Best of luck and can't wait to see this...
