Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Portland

Beer cheese pretzels are just delightful, but one hopes not to get drunk from said cheese. This particular Applebees beer cheese in fact tasted like a condensed pale ale in the form of a gooey (and delicious) cheese product. Foods come in a variety of flavors, colors, and temperatures! There are many entrees that are destined to be cold… French fries are not on that list. Surprisingly neither are mashed potatoes… or steamed green beans. If you were thinking that chicken tortilla soup would be better hot, you are correct BUT unfortunately this particular soup was cool to the touch. You will be delighted to hear that the 8 oz steak was hot! But here’s the catch… it was not 8 oz, maybe 5 at best. If you visit this Applebees make sure to bring a food scale!! The kitchen really upped their game for the toppings! Onions and mushrooms in a lovely garlic sauce. We can agree that there is a point where your dish could have too many onions, Applebees combatted this issue by adding only 5 pieces of chopped onion. The same is also true for mushrooms, luckily they thought of this issue too and aided this problem by simply adding 3-4 pea sized pieces of mushroom. Sometimes less is more… just not in the case of the bourbon street steak. Everyone loves a good ole Shirley temple, a great restaurant classic! Have you ever thought to yourself “I wish this Shirley temple wasn’t so flavorful, and I could really go without the delicious marocchino cherries ( you know, the ones that actually make the drink good?) I’m so glad that Applebees understands this problem, and they were able to recreate this classic drink. To make the Applebees Shirley temple Portland style, simply pour some sprite in a glass, take those cherries and toss ‘em in the trash, then take a little swig of grenadine, swish it real good, and proceed to spit it into the sprite. Careful though! Not too much, just enough to make the drink a nice pale pink. And voila, there you have a Applebees Shirley temple. Now to dessert! Arguably the best part of the meal. Fresh hot donut holes coated in a sticky powdered sugar are delicious! And the warm chocolate sauce and caramel make it even better! No issue here, right? Wrong. Although these precious little holes are an American delicacy, they are in fact a tad messy. Unfortunately we did not have the opportunity to use utensils. Making our fingers a little sticky… a lot sticky actually. But hey, that’s what napkins are for! I’m sure that would’ve fixed this minor inconvenience, but sadly we weren’t given any extra napkins after dinner. This led to us having to share the one slightly dirty napkin leftover from the lovely steak dinner. What’s better than a fresh Applebees fajita wrap? Well apparently a lot of things, like war crimes, 9/11, and child predators, just to name a few. You would assume from the description of this meal that it would obviously include fajita fixings, right? Also wrong. What you do get the pleasure of eating is a lukewarm flour tortilla with some yummy orange American cheese product… and tomatoes! (Don’t worry heat sensitive people, the cheese and tomatoes were cold too!) now the sauce that came with this dish was delicious, after packing up this dream of a meal you would probably want some of that sauce ( the only good part of the meal) in a little to go cup. unfortunately Applebees has no sauce to spare, but fear not! They will do you the honor of giving you a plastic lid to take your used Sauce (which contains little pieces of you food that you had dropped) so you can savor every last soggy bite. Went there with my family on Saturday for lunch and we didn't have a nice experience at all. So not nice that we don't plan on coming back there again. We were told that a waitress name Vanessa would be serving us by the man that let us to our seats. After about at least 15 minutes of sitting, the waitress finally approached us and she didn't even introduced herself to us. Usually the waiter/ess comes and say "Hi, my name is X and I would be taking care of you.." What was wrong: The waitress was not friendly and took her forever to do anything from approaching us to giving us what we had asked. We asked for 4 water with sliced lemons she never got the lemons and when we asked her again she said she will, rolled her eyes as soon as she turned away from us and it took her forever to come back with it. She was not knowledgeable and didn't know to explain a few items from the menu. We ordered long island Ice tee top shelf but all we got was what seemed to be pineapple juice- more juice and not feeling any liquor. We told the waitress we didn't want it because and she kept being pushy and tried again and again to tell us that they can make a new one when we were clear that we didn't want it if that was their recipe for making that drink. She has an attitude. When we first told the other nice young waiter that the drink was no good, he said he said that a manager would come see us and no manager came just our waitress, and she was very pushy. She didn't serve us any of our food, a different waiter did and when we got our onion rings plates, we didn't get any small plates as they usually serve us with. Mind you, we were 4 people... We asked for a straw for a chocolate milk drink, and we are still waiting to receive it... lol No refills on our water, no no no. The only thing we got from her besides attitude is: "How we doing?" generic question. She didn't have her eye on us seeing if we are missing anything. She didn't offer a refill etc. The food was pretty good minus the fact that my kids' burgers were burnt! we didn't even bother telling her.

We did not enjoy our experience and would not go back there again. Needless to say, we left $0 tips since those days of feeling bad are over and we do not reward bad service and behavior. Too bad Vanessa, we usually tip 25%.

Managment should really reassess their crew and do an orientation/ crash course on how to greet and...

This is unbelievable! 3.9 Stars. .This is the absolute BEST Applebee's out there!! Stuck up swine need to stop being jerks. Get real, people. This is the BEST Applebee's in the best location that I've been to yet in all of my extensive traveling, to deliver the food that you buy and eat, and everything else in between. So, if THIS were a 3.9 star location, I'd be the 2st to say it. Stop whining and enjoy your dinner. Super service here. I detest whiny swine. I can call you out by name if you prefer. Kis the best! I cannot believe this Applebee's only has 3.9 stars. The food and the staff are wonderful Maine is a beautiful state. This is a 5 star location!

We just came home from the Applebee's located in North Syracuse, New York. It was a total bullcrap experience and the host was a total dick. Seriously, I almost laid him out. People in Maine are so nice. And KM was wonderful and kind server. Our server in North Syracuse was a 3 star. K was 10 stars. Be fortunate enough when you have a wonderful girl like K to wait on you. Please be kind and tip her like we did. She's worth the $30 tip. The girl in North Syracuse we gave a $10 tip to. You're tipped in accordance with your service and attitude. K IS the absolute best server that my beautiful wife and I have encountered in our many trips to Applebee's along the north east. She is a appitimy of what a professional server should be.

We absolutely Love "K"! Superb service from our very sweet server, "K". Food was absolutely delicious and the only staff here was great. The price was very good and we left with a full stomach. Next year we will definitely be back if the Lord's willing. No one is ever promised to live to see tomorrow, let alone today. But we truly appreciate "K", who really helped make our experience all the more better with her knowledge of the menu, kindness(such a dear and sweet girl, very genuine) that was over the top, and willingness to quickly get a drink refill to us. She's the best in Portland Maine, that's for sure. She made our anniversary trip all the more pleasant. So ask for her when you visit Applebee's in Portland Maine. Oh, and it's extremely clean throughout the restaurant. VERY Important! 5 stars...
