I am deeply disappointed by my experience with this establishment. What should have been a pleasant family outing turned into an upsetting and humiliating ordeal. While the food was passable, the behavior of the front-of-house staff was absolutely unacceptable. One of the staff members openly made fun of my disabled daughter, which was not only unprofessional but also deeply hurtful. My daughter deserves respect and kindness, like any other customer dining in this restaurant. Instead, she was mocked in a way no parent should have to witness.
This level of insensitivity and poor customer service is beyond comprehension for a business that depends on its patrons for success. I will not be returning to this establishment and cannot recommend it.
However, I would like to note that the macarons were my daughter’s favorite, so we decided to take them to go.
I will be contacting the ADA regarding this unacceptable experience.
Edited to add I don't appreciate the owner trying to make me out to be a liar. The exact item that is stated that is out of stock apparently, is shown in another review from 4 weeks ago. That timeline sure doesn't add up. You need a lesson in proper management and how to...
Read moreWe’ve been here multiple times but only for cheese, charcuterie, and wine shopping, not dining (yet!). It’s one of our favorite spots for cheese ever, and we’ve tried plenty in Oregon, California, and Texas.
The cheese and meat selection is truly great, and cheese specifically seems to rotate often. What a great variety of cheese with crystals; our favorite type! Have I seen wider selections? Yes. Do I mind? No.
What’s even better, is the staff helping with recommendations and tasting. Shout out to Isaac (I hope I got that right?!)! His cheerful demeanor and passion for his job definitely makes us buy more stuff than we need - ok, maybe my constant cheese craving is at fault, too. We also love how we can refer back to our past purchases and remind ourselves what we had bought previously.
Ambiance and interior design are well done. Generally many more options for bites, wine, dessert, tinned fish etc etc if you’re not into cheese and meat.
Bonus: I shouldn’t be sharing this but…...
Read moreIf I were to - in my limited capacity as a mere mortal - design the perfect location within which to dine before seeing a movie at Portland’s own Cinema 21, I imagine it would look a LOT like Négociant.
This spot is amazing! They have a wonderful variety of drinks, all that you could dream of for the creation of charcuterie boards, a fun and kind staff, AND they are right across the street from one of my favorite theatres.
The atmosphere is light and well decorated and they have a variety of books and merchandise for your perusal as you dine.
While I did not eat much of their food and cannot speak to its quality, I can tell you this is worth a stop regardless.
And while I have spoken ad nauseam regarding Négociant’s proximity to Cinema 21, I assure you book lovers that this is a spot worth a stop regardless of the presence of a film on...
