I've been coming to this place back when it was Java Hound and my dog literally dragged me in about 3 years ago. The deviously elevated and diversely stocked treat trough behind the counter allowed my Mastidor to try everything he could get his Zoidberg feeder tendrils on.
A year later, they opened up their "Barkery" and rolled out yet another way for my dogs to further drain my discretionary income. Pumpkin cupcakes topped with fish, peanut butter cupcakes topped with bacon and entire cakes of both.
These, combined with their huge selection of pet CBD products (surprisingly hard to find in Portland), higher end foods and jackets, toys, beds made us a repeat customer for years.
The staff are utterly fantastic and helpful. Bar a few, who are made of pure, unadulterated Haterade. I've had treats thrown at me (my dog intercepted a few of these) while being called a peasant, been compared in looks to a sexier Green River Serial Killer (this one's kinda true), accused of running a sex trafficking ring among other things. I have to plan out my visits here during their busiest times, lest I incur completely unprovoked taunting. One of the terrible two left to go spread her awfulness at another pet store but continues to send insults through the other staff.
That being said, ill probably be back there later this week. Please come by so I can use you for...
Read moreI was walking on this side of Portland just exploring, welI I stumbled across Hip Hounds. I walked on in because I owned 2 dogs, so I wanted to get them a little something special. "Warning" be prepared to spend some money($$$) If you do decide to shop here. I was expecting the prices to be more like a Petco or a Petsmart situation, but this place is fancy, I guess. They sell harnesses, leashes, collars, beds, toys, dog food, and many other accessories. They do have a small cat section with a cat Food and cats accessory , but it's mostly a dog owner store from my perspective. I was looking at the dog jackets because I was like. "Okay, my little dog can use a nice little warm jacket." But when I saw the prices, my mind was blonde🤯 $50-$100+ for a dog coat/jacket. Overall, the atmosphere in the store was great. There were a lot of people, and everybody was lively and chatting about their pets. The people working there are quite helpful. They gave good advice and were to find things. There is a coffee bar for the pet owners to enjoy. As well as a pet bakery filled with treats and all different types of goodies for your pet to enjoy if you do decide to buy some for your pet. You can also bring your pets in store if you want, they...
Read moreI love browsing this place and getting fun treats for my dog, but I had a very uncomfortable interaction with an employee that makes me hesitant to come back here.
The employee came up to me out of no where to tell me she had a problem with the type of collar I was using on my dog, and then tried to convince me to buy a harness. This was extremely unsolicited and out of the blue; I was just standing there with my dog while she said hi to another pup, and the employee came over and started asking me about her collar. I shouldn’t have had to, but I explained that I used to work in the veterinary field and that her collar was completely safe when fitted and used properly, and was approved by multiple vets and trainers. In the middle of my sentence she walked away and went back behind the counter.
I found it EXTREMELY unprofessional not only to judge me and throw unsolicited advice in my face, but then to just walk away without even letting me finish my response. I really hope management takes this seriously because they will lose customers when their employees treat...
