I was searching for a quick breakfast place nearby since we were in town visiting and planned to take a day trip outside the city. That's when Ovation caught my eye because it had hundreds and hundreds of reviews with a perfect 5-star rating. We got here at around 8:45 AM on President's Day and there were a few street parking spots available.
They have many, many drinks so I would recommend looking up the menu beforehand and deciding (which is what I did), or else it can be overwhelming if you have to decide in the store. I had the iced Moroccan mint tea, which was super refreshing. My husband had the vanilla matcha latte and it was sickeningly sweet. Even he says so, and he is the one with the sweet tooth.
For food, I had the Supreme Biscuit (egg patty stuffed with spinach, garlic, mushrooms, tomato, and mozzarella cheese, topped with turkey sausage and layered with pepperjack and cheddar). This was good but after eating it for a while, I noticed there was some spice in it that I wasn't a huge fan of, but couldn't quite put my finger on what it was. I liked my husband's sammie better. He had the Gyro Biscuit (lamb gyro, egg patty, goat cheese, roasted tomato on a biscuit). I've never had a breakfast sandwich with gyro in it, so I liked it. However, I don't like goat cheese so that's why I didn't get this one for myself. If I could go back, I would see if they could sub the cheese for a different one.
Although the breakfast menu is small with just four sandwiches on it, I appreciate the uniqueness of it. Overall, it was still a nice breakfast. It was not overly heavy, yet filling enough to last us until...
Read moreI’ve been going in this coffee place for a hot minute now (a couple of years at least) and in those times, the Moroccan latte has been the king of lattes here in Portland, at least in my own opinion. I took out 1 star for the service because not everyone is consistent. The weekend crew is almost always nice, but the rest leaves something to be desired. Also, one of the owners (I think, tall lighter skin, and bald) kinda gives me the ick? I don’t really know why, but I saw him talking to one of the workers and the way he was looking at her seemed off. Yes, I’m biased as I’m also a woman, where we are trained to be suspicious and wary of men because of our own personal experiences, besides that though, why are all the women workers of a similar age group, and ALL of them share similar physical attributes? Most of them are white girls but the two Asian girls I saw have the same “look”. About 5’4 to 5’6, leaner frames, small oval shaped faces, longish hair, narrow noses, higher cheekbones and nice smiles. Almost like a “type”. They did have one token white boy that I saw once, and that was very recent. I’ve been back about 3 times at different days and different times but I haven’t seen him since again.
Oh well, the place is great and I do recommend it, having said that, I needed to write down here what I said though. Here’s to hoping everything here is...
Read moreFinally a coffee spot in Portland that isn't run by a bunch of snobby hipsters!!!! I've been to so many "4+ Star rated" coffee shops in PDX and I don't get the hype. The coffee sucks and the service (or lack thereof) is nothing short of pretentious. We left home late today (our family date day) heading to hubby's orientation and didn't have time to stop at my local go to coffee shop. I was SO bummed out... I just wanted good coffee from nice ppl. Hubby's orientation was a block away from Ovation so when I read that it was supposed to have good service and coffee... I figured, hey, it can't get worse. I've had worse here. So we went.
When I walked in I was greeted by the cashier with a smile and a cheery hello and how are you. I swiftly orders my go to drink l, a vanilla latte, and awaited the horrendous price. I'm used to paying close to $6 for a small.latte. nope! $6 for a 16oz latte and a Naked Juice for my son. Yes!!! Look at the menu and the prices are low low low!!! Heard my drink called out and walked over just to be happily greeted by the smiling batista. He asked if I'd like a sleeve and lid, and I said yes, he then offered to put them on for me. Very nice of you sir!
Tasted my drink and my oh my it was DELICIOUS!!!!! BEST COFFEE IN PDX...
