Scottie's has goood pizza! The crust is almost perfect and very consistent. The signature pies are interesting and tasty. The toppings are well balanced. Order online and you get a notification when it's ready so you don't need to post up next to the pickup window. I appreciate the owners investing in a convenient POS software that does that.
Why only two stars? Frankly, the prices are too high now, they recently went up about 10%. The cheese went from $26.40 to $30, the pep went from $33.60 to $36. That's high. I'm including the service fee which Scotty's should do up front. In the sticker price as it were.
Everyone should read the service fee page on Scottie's website. It's informative and shows how much they care about their workers. Here's their reason for having a service fee instead of including it in the sticker price:
"In our economy and culture, we aren’t used to seeing prices that fully reflect the cost of labor that goes into producing our food."
I agree with their philosophy of giving workers a living wage. I don't agree with tagging it on the back-end with the fee especially with how proud they are about it (the workers not the fee). Maybe they're worried people would see that cost of labor price and say "no thank you." By no means is this skullduggery. Not saying that. But it's a little eye rolling, for me anyway.
Now I doubt Scotty's is going to lower its prices back to what it was b/c of one schlemiel's two-star review. It's a popular spot and I'm sure research went into the price hike and the owners know what they're doing. I don't expect the service fee to go away but here's my idea: a different service fee for pickup orders. Tagging on an extra 20 for a pickup is not fair. Reserve that for the tables. I think a 10% service fee for online orders is fair. I won't look anyone directly in the eyes, I'll grab my pizza, and...
Read moreThe End of an Epic Quest: A Truly Perfect Slice and a Great Manager! This review is not just for a slice of pizza; it’s for the salvation of an evening. After a disastrous, multi-stop search for a piping-hot, satisfying cheese slice across NW Portland, Scotty's Pizza was the miracle I needed. I had been driving in circles, completely frustrated by every other pizza joint in the area-stale slices, cold food, and utterly unhelpful staff elsewhere. I was about to give up when a parking spot miraculously opened up right in front of Scotty's, and I took it as a sign. The moment I walked in, the atmosphere was a welcome change. The pizza itself was exactly what I was looking for: The Slice: Piping hot, with a phenomenal sourdough crust that was perfectly crispy on the outside and wonderfully chewy on the inside. This is the authentic, no-nonsense quality I was craving. The Ranch: I was skeptical (only because it was light green) but it's homemade and I thought well-let's see! And, it was amazing and complemented the pizza perfectly. The experience was sealed by the manager, Gina. As I was waiting to grab a box, she checked in on me. She asked if I needed anything and after getting me a box asked how everything was. I told her it was my first time there and that I was blown away and I told her about my absurd pizza quest, and she was incredibly sweet, attentive, and understanding. She embodies what great customer service should be. If you are looking for a guaranteed, high-quality, hot slice of pizza in the NW area, skip the other options and come straight to Scotty's. It's truly worth the trip! Thank you, Scotty's and thank you, Gina, for saving my dinner!" Side note: 20% tip included when paying, ranch...
Read moreHighly recommend taking your business anywhere else if I could give them less than one star I would the pizza was bland and undercooked I also ordered extra sausage charged 5 bucks for it and did not receive it even the picture on the website of the pie I ordered had more sausage than my over priced piece of soggy cardboard. I’m a pizza enthusiast anytime I travel I try the local top rated pizzeria’s and for the cost but more importantly the over all quality of pizza this place belongs on the bottom of the list I’d order Pizza Hut over this ever again. And for clarity on this I haven’t ate Pizza Hut in years and have zero plans of ever eating it again.
The icing on the cake is that they had the nerve to charge me a mandatory 20% tip and call it a service charge on a to go order what kind of poor business management is going on it’s not my job to pay your employees wages because you don’t want to pay them the price of your pizza is more than high enough to pay them a fair wage tips are optional and earned maybe if I was dinning in but I got a to go order that’s absolutely insane owner is obviously a cheap scape and the quality of there pizza shows it I’d highly recommend to not take your business to these guys and go literally anywhere else.
The only good thing I have to say was the lady behind the counter was super friendly and because of that I probably would have tipped good anyways but a kind person doesn’t make up for the slop they called pizza and...
