Saw a video on Facebook about the XXL chicken and how tasty and crunchy it was. Being the fatty I am, I called my brother and said let’s go check this out. We get there at noon. Prime lunch time and ordered 2 xxl chickens and a bbq drum stick and a Jerk drum stick. Came out to 39$ And I said that is a bit pricy but what the heck. I was all excited to bite into this chicken till I opened my box and the chicken was barely warm and the crust was a soggy rolled in corn meal. I took a bite and there was 0 crunch. None. The chicken was alittle dry on the outer rim but had some moisture towards the middle. Honestly not seasoned very well. There’s more flavor on a Walmart chicken tender. The bbq drumstick was cold and tasted like Kraft bbq sauce was just dumped all over the chicken. The jerk chicken barely has seasoning on it and lacked the real jerk flavor and again was cold. The cornbread was dry.
I hope they do better in the future because I sure do love soul food but that experience left my soul kind of empty.
Updated 1:20pm December 1st. I believe you are talking about a different person as I never asked about ribs. This was the first time I’ve ever gone there it was November 30th at noon. And let’s be real. Instead of addressing my issues you want to attack what I said. That’s a poor method of customer service. Also the chicken was not made to order as I ordered and was given the food within seconds. So no it...
Read moreDrove my wife down to Portland So she can board a flight back to California. We decided to stop at the mall and get a quick bite to eat. We ran across this little gem of soul food. And it was the absolute most amazing food I've had in a mall. My wife had the fried chicken, collard greens And Mac and cheese. I have the jerked chicken and candy Yams. One thing that made it really impressive was the all black crew. They made you feel at home and extremely friendly. The fried chicken that my wife had was flat and crispy unlike anything I've ever seen before. And the jerked chicken I had, it had so much flavor it went all the way to the bone. I wanted to order another one just for the road home but I know unfortunately it would not make it that far. When my wife and kids come back to Maine we are going to make a special trip to the mall just for the soul food . I wish I had took a picture of my plate and my wife's plate but we were so hungry we did not have a chance to take a picture of our food. But for the people that know me if I run across a place that is absolutely amazing I will give it the best rating possible and if it's a horrible place you know I will give it a one star. This place deserves a 5 star way beyond 5 stars for being an at a food court in the mall this place deserves that be in its...
Read moreHands down some of the best food I have had in my entire life. The flavors and textures were a whirlwind of explosion and flavor. Everyone needs to get out of the Panda Express line and try Soul Food Paradise. We're making a special trip just to see them when we visit Portland. I order their 2 item combo and did their fried chicken with mac n' cheese and collard greens. My husband ordered their jerk chicken and candy yams. Everything was so full of flavor. The jerk chicken flavor was through to the bone. The fried chicken was nothing like I've had before. Huge flat piece breaded in an amazingly crunchy breading and super tender and juicy. The candy yams were on point with their sweetness. I love mac n' cheese and they have a super cheesy one made to perfection. Best collard greens around, I wish I knew how to make their collard greens. Get out of your comfort zone and try something different. Give your taste buds the flavorful ride they've been dying to have. This place deserves more than 5 stars. I hope and pray you guys expand into something bigger. The staff were all really nice. Come...
