Not customer or community friendly
I attended a small worker's networking group for first time for Minority Americans and Tech professionals, the organizer chose this place for work and lunch. Everything was fine throughout the gathering, but towards the end of lunch the owner told one of the members they did like customers or students using their space for long periods of time because they didn't like cleaning up after large groups and felt that it was not good for their business. We understood their concerns and wanted to compromise on set time to leave but they were not open to talking. The conversation ended with mixed feelings as they told our group they only allowed us to stay that day because they do not get enough customers which was part of the reason why we wanted to support the business in the first place.
Recently heard a group member and two others were banned from their restaurant due to this review post. Sad to hear that they won't let this go and not treat their customers and community with respect.
There is possible racial profiling as all three were brown two Hispanics and one Filipino, where again two were not even part of the main group. To give some demographic context of the main group that day there were: 2 Chinese men, 1 Filipina women, 1 Korean women, 1 Indian guy, 1 Filipino guy, and 1 white guy. * 2 dropped by and didn't...
Read moreWe loved the service and food here. I think it's on the slightly more expensive side because it's so fresh and the portion sizes are so generous.
The server was super accommodating, I needed to not have rice and she was able to give me extra vegetables.
❤️Microgreen bibimbap ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ I loved the vegetables here but was just ok with the meat, I think instead of bulgogi which I felt was a little dry, I'd probably ask for shrimp next time I asked for no rice, just extra veggies and they did such a good job with this the egg was perfectly runny for fried I love the sauce on the side, gave control it's what you'd expect for sure
❤️ Kalbi ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ this meat was super good and juicy loved all the sides that came with it I wouldn't personally order this as my main because there wasn't enough veggies for me, but I loved the taste, it's definitely something to order if you're a meat and rice...
Read moreAs a Korean American who loves cooking at home, I rarely find myself impressed by Korean restaurants in the Portland area. But The Soop truly exceeded my expectations. From the beautifully presented Micro Green BibimBap to the rich and comforting Soondubu Soup and the flavorful Short Rib Platter, every dish was bursting with quality and authenticity.
The interior added to the experience with its cozy ambiance and lighthearted jazz piano music, creating a warm and welcoming environment. The owners were incredibly kind, checking in often to ensure we had everything we needed. I also appreciated their attention to detail, like offering filtered water—something you don’t always see.
The Soop is a true hidden gem in downtown Portland. If you haven’t been, you’re genuinely missing out on an exceptional...
