It could have been an off day (we all have them) but it was a very off day. Givens that could have contributed 1) weekday post-lunch 2) staff shift change 3) first day that really felt like Spring.
Given those givens the staff paid attention to the seemingly very regular regulars but the bare minimum to "outsiders."
I had just walked several blocks because there was a soccer match I wanted to watch, it was a beautiful day and Google Maps said it was the closest sports bar to my mid-day appointment.
I had actually been to the Kingston P.C. (Pre-Covid). It is THE spot before/after Timbers and Thorns soccer matches held at the stadium right across the street. They seemed to deal very well when the place is packed with thirsty fans.
My main issue with my visit today was what could kindly be viewed as a miscommunication about my order. Looking over the menu the prices were fair/reasonable/good overall.
They had a breakfast special for $9 that I incorrectly read as "2 Mini Omelettes with hashbrowns" so I ordered that pointing at the menu item. I don't eat meat so I asked for no meat ... She said "so just cheese." I was thinking that some places offer a veggie substitute but "all good" ... it is just 9 bucks.
I was there alone. One person ordering. No one else had ordered food in the last 20 minutes. The bartender/waitress did not seek clarification. The food came quickly ... 2 Mini Omelettes and hashbrowns ... The food was good. The football match was better.
When my bill came out it said mini omelettes x2 for $18 .. I very nicely said "I think you charged me twice for the 2 Mini Omelettes' ... The cook was walking by and said "you ordered TWO 2 Mini Omelettes .. that's what you got." I said "so I was charged $18 for 2 Mini Omelettes and hashbrowns...". The faces of the bartender/waitress and the cook said "yes.' I laughed at the situation and said "okay.. they were the most delicious plain mini cheese omelettes I have ever had" ...paid and left. I...
Read moreWhat a dump. I see someone is resting on their laurels since they're just across from the stadium. I can't even imagine how crammed and impossible to get a drink it is after a game...
It was my first time going. The bartender was easily distracted and it took about 5 minutes solid to get my cider... nothing fancy. It was pretty 🐌 🦥 slow so I'm not sure what the deal was.
My friend ordered food, and while the sandwich was good, the fries were limp and soggy. If you sit outside, get ready to be asked 1,000 times if you have money or a cigarette to dispense: the sitting side is unusually heavy for hobo foot traffic. Well, to be fair, that's West Burnside for ya.
Bathroom door would hardly close. Everything was just kinda crusty and blah. Not really for me. But hey, at least my tip went to the bartender's next...
