We loved this place and came here regularly. Our kids loved their tostadas, veggie burritos, and bean and cheese burritos. We adults loved their chicken fajita burritos. We had a disappointing experience recently where a veggie burrito we ordered had a distinct moldy flavor to it. First my child tasted it, and I was skeptical, thinking my child was perhaps mistaking cilantro for the moldy flavor, but I tasted it as well after a few bites. I called the business and very kindly informed the person who answered (male) about our experience and asked if we could come back to get a replacement veggie burrito. I was surprised and disappointed at his response: he sounded angry and spoke to me as if he didn't believe me. So in response I offered to bring back the uneaten portion of the burrito, which he told us to go ahead and do. But when there, after sniffing and looking at the burrito, he still responded as though he did not believe us, stating that it seemed like a "regular burrito" to him before grudgingly giving us a replacement.
Lo and behold, we discovered later that day that the replacement veggie burrito also had the same moldy taste. We dissected the burrito and tasted each ingredient separately, and pinpointed it to the tomatoes. We called them again, and a lady answered with no knowledge of the events earlier in the day. However, this time, we told them we didn't want another burrito or our money back but were just trying to help them out by letting them know it was their tomatoes. We reiterated that we were regular customers and loved their food.
We were never contesting the freshness of their ingredients--we buy "fresh" from the grocery as well, but can still mistakenly come home with moldy fruit or veggies.
As much as we love this place, we will likely take our business elsewhere now because of how we were treated. I think it is great to stand behind your product, but mistakes can happen. We were never rude or accusatory when we called, and were the ones that were inconvenienced by having to drive back. Yet we were treated as though we were the ones being unreasonable--or worse--that we were lying. This experience has left a permanent sour taste in my mouth. A little courtesy...
Read moreAs an Armed Forces retiree and new resident of California, I frequently visit this establishment particularly for their OUTSTANDING mini tacos! The "Adobada" and "Pollo Asado" are some of very best I've ever had!
Earlier this evening, I called to pay compliments to the chef (Danny) after I crushed two (2) of each. The tacos were especially excellent tonight because he cooked the pork and chicken to this lovely "golden brown and red" color topped with grilled onions and fresh cilantro! Muy delicioso!
Even got the word out to a fellow resident in a nearby community!
Please do yourself a great justice and support Salsa Mexican Food of Poway, California!

Read moreI went to the drive-thru to pick up some rolled tacos for me and my wife like I usually do.I pulled up to the window and he seemed a little irritated by my presence, once he saw me(perhaps, being white, I'm the wrong color!)He gave me my change and my tacos and seemed really irritated.......🤔🤔🤔. I brought the rolled tacos home to my wife.To me,they tasted alright, not really that great but passable. My wife said it tasted stale and dry.She called them and told them about it and the guy sounded irritated by hearing her complaint, and did nothing about it! So,after giving them ALL this business,we are now crossing them OFF our list!!!! There's A LOT of other Mex places in Poway that are...
