I had my heart set on going to Pete's hamburger stand, But the line was quite long and I didn't want to keep my family waiting. So we went to Muddy Waters. Service was pleasant, but the place seemed like it needed a solid cleaning. Un-bussed tables and empty cans behind the bar.
The food tasted AMAZING - very generous toppings and a really crispy crust - my favorite.
But...
The crust was peppered with debris from the oven. A good amount of flour/dough, even toppings burnt onto the bottom.
The worst/most memorable part was the flies. It was a Constant fight. I had to get my wife a new drink because one decided to go for a swim. There were dozens. Both the front AND back doors were open. The back door is in the kitchen. Definitely not sanitary.
I waited a couple of days before posting this review to make sure that I wasn't doing it just because I was angry because of the situation. This is an honest accounting of what I felt could have been an amazing experience but turned into basically a nightmare. The bill for a family of 5 was almost $85 including tip. If they were to clean the place up, manage the insect problem, maybe have better air conditioning, clean the kitchen up, and get an additional waitress, this place could be absolutely amazing 10 out of 10. As it stands right now it's a 2 only because the pizza tasted amazing even though it was a bit horrifying once I looked underneath it.
Bless her heart, the waitress offered a fly swatter to me when I went to go get the replacement drink for my wife. I know that she was only trying to make the best of a bad situation, but if you have to keep a fly swatter in a restaurant like this then maybe do better mitigating the reasons why the flies are there. Also it was super loud in the dining area - banging so loud in the kitchen it made...
Read moreThe 2 stars is based on the dining experience and not the quality of the food, because it was very good pizza. However, it was the most bizarre situation. Our waitress and a male staff member seemed to be quarreling and the male staff member seemed intoxicated. He was raising his voice, ringing the kitchen bell repeatedly, came out of the kitchen to conduct some random survey about what day it is, and at one point was insisting that our son take home a banjo that he tried showing him how to play. This did seem like a nice gesture, but it went too far. Our waitress eventually led him away from our table. After hearing what appeared to be this male staff member banging on or kicking at the back door, I sent my kids out to our car because it became very uncomfortable. After paying the bill that I had to ask for, I started to head to the door and he approached me, adamant that I take a ukulele home that also made an appearance after the banjo. I tried to politely say “Thank you, but no.”, but he would not let it go so I just walked out the door. It was all very inappropriate, which is a shame because we really did love...
Read moreMy partner and I were on a time crunch during our road rally and had to grab a QUICK bite. Saw the outside sign that said, "Hot Pizza, Cold Beer." when we parked in front.
We we're going to do the tourist trap burger joint 3 blocks down, but the sign drew me in.
The server, who was frantically dealing with orders by her self, while on the phone, greeted us warmly.
I explained to her that we only had a 45 lunch break and were in a charity competition. So I asked her, "How long for a medium pie?"
She said, " 15 minutes." It was out on our table in TEN!
We ate like kings and made our leg of the rally with 15 minutes to spare!!!
