Food good…pricing not so much,
I ordered delivery of the queso appetizer and enchiladas de Jaiba.
Both items were delicious. I’m not a fan of red and green sauce, So I chose to go with something that did not include it. I was not disappointed. The enchiladas were yummy. The queso, despite the fact that this is not a dish you can frequently find in this part of the country was actually very good. Big kudos for offering it and for it being of good quality.
The reason for my mediocre rating is that the pricing is highway robbery. I’m gonna focus on the chips, because this is easy. Chips used to be free and all you can eat. The chips I received with my queso weren’t even enough to get through half of the portion of cheese dip. I had to grab a can of Pringles to finish it off… Yes Pringles (the horror)… Because I wasn’t gonna fire up my deep fryer to make my own homemade chips last minute. Pringles with my queso… It almost makes you want to cry.
I make homemade tortilla chips on a regular basis. With a deep fryer which is not nearly as big as restaurant equipment. It takes 3 to 4 minutes to deep fry twice as many chips in my deep fryer as what I received with my appetiser. I can get a bag of 30 corn tortillas for $2.24. Today’s pricing. I quarter them and half a bag makes a huge portion of nachos. Twice as many as I received from the restaurant. But let’s be generous and say that I received half a bags worth… That would be $1.12 This price is retail, not on sale, and certainly not wholesale restaurant pricing. This restaurant charges almost $9 For a “large bag of chips”. I don’t know what a large bag is, But it can’t be more than 30 corn tortillas worth… Because that’s 120 chips. But let’s say a large bag is 120 chips. If I was making it myself, It would cost me $2.24 plus 4 min of my time and the cost of the electricity to get my deep fryer to temperature. Again these are retail prices. And the chips I make at home rival or are better than restaurant chips because they are very fresh.
Chips, much like bread, used to be free filler food at restaurants. Still are at many places. And I’m also a baker and bread is way more challenging, temperamental and time-consuming to make. I do not understand the pricing of these items. It’s shocking quite honestly. Be ashamed. If it weren’t for the fact that you were fleecing customers (And the fact that I had to polish off my queso with Pringles) You would’ve gotten a five star rating… Because your food is actually quite good.
Have no fear… You are not the only restaurant that’s going to hear my opinion on the pricing of food in this area. The Asian restaurants are also shamefully expensive and the quality is not nearly as good. But you could be way more generous with your...
Read moreWe went for lunch today at 3pm on Sunday, they were definitely busy and had a help wanted sign on the door which screams that they didn't have enough servers, which I can't blame on them but it took 45 minutes to an hour to even get our entree and about 10 minutes later our food was out, the server only checked in on us twice, ignored empty drinks and empty chip trays and salsa bowls, a different server brought us more chips and 1 salsa bowl, servers also ignored us when we tried to wave them down asking for a refill or napkins and the servers seems very irritated that they had to stop what they were doing to refill a drink. Mind you, we only asked for one drink refill and asked for napkins one time. The table next to us was also shouting out to servers to bring another beer for him, which was rude but the servers also ignored him multiple times as well. Even though they're short staffed, they still aren't paying attention to all customers and making sure that everyone is happy. There were enough people working in the restaurant to be checking in on all tables, I watched multiple different people running food and drinks to tables. From now on I'll be going across town to Lindo Mexico, we went there a few weeks ago and customer service was 1000% better, they were also super busy but we got our food within 10 minutes of ordering, the server was constantly checking in to make sure we were happy and asking if we...
Read moreThe horrible customer service displayed by the staff and the manager/owner, Jose, makes this place a one star establishment. I used to eat here weekly, but this restaurant routinely messes up on the to go orders. I have given this place grace and continued to support this business time and time again, even when I haven’t received items or have been overcharged for items. The girls that answer the phone never take responsibility for mistakes they’ve made, and the manager/ owner Jose has been consistently rude and condescending in his speech. The kitchen cuts corners when packing up the to go orders which leads to missing food or meals that have condiments (sour cream, salsa, etc sitting on top of the beans and rice instead of on the side). No one takes responsibility when I bring these issues to their attention. Instead, I consistently receive excuses and blame on myself for not specifying that I don’t want sour cream sitting on top of all of my beans (seriously?!). Anyways, after complaining today to Jose (the owner/manager) about being overcharged and receiving food that was not acceptable, he basically asked me not to come back to the restaurant. I was shocked because again, Jose is the owner but I told him that I will never return to the restaurant. I definitely will not give this place my...
