Our group of three had a terrific experience at Suya Joint.
The food was full of flavor and everything we tried was a hit. We started with the joint sampler and the beef suya as appetizers. The wings that came as part of the joint sampler were savory and a little bit spicy; definitely different from most other wings we’ve had. We dunked the samosas that came in the sampler into the chicken wing sauce and the combo was excellent. The beef suya had a bit of spice to it and had a savory peanut flavor.
For entrees, we ordered the vegetarian taushe stew, the egusi, and the palm butter / banga. We ordered pounded yam and eba (garri) as the accompaniments for the entrees. Each entree had a different flavor and all were fantastic. The taushe stew had a really rich peanut flavor that anyone who loves peanut butter would appreciate. The egusi had a similar taste, but less smooth texture, to the taushe and had a stronger umami flavor. Finally, the palm butter / banga had a great earthy and somewhat peppery flavor. None of us could finish our entrees because two appetizers and three entrees split among three people was a lot of food, so we were glad to be taking leftovers home. Also, we didn’t ordered proteins in our entrees, but I’m excited to return and do that next time.
Melanie was our server, and she was incredibly kind and helpful. She helped us to decide what to order by patiently answering more than a few questions, and advising on what items work well together. She told us how to eat the stews with our hands. Melanie even took time to tell us about the decor, which they had recently won an award for.
We can’t say enough compliments about Suya Joint and are looking forward to...
Read moreMy first experience trying African food at this Nigerian restaurant was truly memorable. The interior was modern yet infused with a bright African vibe, creating a warm and lively atmosphere. The service was excellent—our server was incredibly kind, attentive, and friendly, ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our meal.
We ordered the African Dinner (Veg. Lovers) - $38, which allowed us to enjoy a variety of authentic African flavors without the hassle of selecting individual dishes. The meal included Jollof Rice, Plantains, Egusi with Fufu, and a choice of meat. For those opting for a meatless option, they offered Moi-Moi or Beans, and the meal concluded with a traditional African dessert called Yum Yum.
The most intriguing part of the meal was Pounded Yam, a staple in Nigerian cuisine. This dish is made by boiling and mashing yam until it reaches a smooth, stretchy, and dough-like consistency. It is typically served with rich, flavorful soups like Egusi, Okro, or Ogbono, and is eaten by tearing off a small piece, rolling it into a ball, and dipping it into the soup. The texture was soft yet slightly chewy, making it a unique and satisfying complement to the bold flavors of the meal.
For appetizers, we tried Spicy Suya Wings, Beef and Vegetable Samosas, Plantains, and Stew. Everything was well-prepared and full of flavor. The Guava Cheesecake was a bit too sweet for my taste, but overall, the meal was a delightful experience.
Trying Nigerian cuisine for the first time was both fun and fascinating. It was an immersive culinary journey, and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to explore...
Read moreI can’t say enough about Suya Joint Providence. Our first time visiting all the way from Dallas Texas. Mmmmm, the African Dinner (Veg Lovers) was good. The Egusi taste yummy. We also had Fried Snapper (Giwan Ruwa) it was taste amazing We chose Spicy, but you can ask for Mild also. It was just right though, not too much to burn your mouth with too much spice. You will enjoy the African dinner, it’s enough to share, it also comes with a dessert. The chocolate on chocolate was rich and soooo good. Sorry I forgot to snap picture ( I ate that later in the evening). I had the hibiscus tea it was bomb, 💣, you must try that!
The decor was stunning when you walk in, art work awesome and very clean, even the bathroom was nice and clean! We noticed each table had a fact about the African culture, a nice touch. Our waitress Frieda was awesome! She answered all of my questions, was so nice and friendly. She made us feel welcome and made our first visit to Providence memorable....
