I am NOT one to want to put a business down but honestly the way the staff treated me I don't feel that bad sharing....If these are the kind of people they are going to have lead their team then they honestly deserve the backlash they'll inevitably receive. I can't believe my experience at Ocean 193. I left shocked, upset and horrified. Let me get the good out of the way... Blake, our server was kind, apologetic and attentive. The host was great. The views are wonderful. Apps were good. My friend and I both ordered the seafood risotto. The seafood was cooked really well. The risotto was WAY undercooked. To the point if I pinched some of the pieces of rice between my fingers it remained fully in tact. Risotto shouldn't be crunchy... We picked away the seafood until the waiter came back (which to no fault of his own was a little while) and let him know our concern. We asked if it could be cooked more or if they could bring us out a side of rice to share. He apologized and got his manager. Unfortunately, didn't get the managers name (his title was lead server). This person came over and said we ate our seafood (full bowl of risotto still left) so it's too late to do anything and the kitchen was too busy to cook our rice further but he's happy to give us a dessert on the house. He left and the owner came over... we explained again and he said he apologized and would handle it. Then the lead server comes back- we think this time to tell us they are firing risotto for us. NOPE. "Just so you know, the risotto was cooked to PERFECTION. 90% of the population likes it this way so I don't know what's wrong with you. Want to educate me on how you THINK it should be done?" To spare you the novel I could write... he continued to gaslight me (ex: "do you know what al dente means??") and argue. The folks next to us leaned in to tell us they were also shocked by the waiters behavior towards me. "What dessert do you want, that is all I am going to offer you"... "None, thank you." He looks me in my eyes and goes "WOOOOOW. WOWWWWW. WOW." and walks off. My jaw just dropped to the floor at that point. Also, not for nothing, but he called me FELLA three times... I am quite obviously a woman. Way to really drive home the petulance. Here's the thing...you'd THINK they could at least bring us a side of rice... or more bread or SOMETHING. Usually when a dish is sent back that becomes kitchen's priority.. It was just an awful experience. They ended up comping the dishes as the owner said he was too busy to deal with us any further (ha...). A nice gesture, I suppose, but not what we wanted- we left hungry and so beyond upset. We tipped Blake based off of the dishes being on the bill because he really was kind and apologetic to later learn tips are pooled go figure. I would literally eat ANYWHERE else the next time I visit...
Read moreA group of 5 friends, quickly morphed into a party of 11 when the word got out that we were dining at Ocean 193! EVERYone wanted to come!
Amazing accommodations were made to seat us comfortably for what was to be a most wonderful experience. The staff were amazingly present but not pushy.
The food was amazing. I very much enjoyed the Coconut Corn Soup - the soup was very complex in it's flavors and kept revealing itself to me the more I ate it. The soup arrived at my table HOT~ as soup should be. That doesn't happen everywhere - but it does at Ocean! My dinner companions who had starter appetizers were presented with beautiful and interesting plates.... Even though we were a rather large party, the meal was not rushed upon us. When, and only when each person had finished the first course was the table cleared. - Again - that doesn't happen everywhere. When the tables were all clear, the entrees started to arrive... With each dish placed before a guest, the ooohs and aaahs which usually accompany a fireworks display were clearly and unanimously heard... As the host, I was served first. I was amazed at how lovely and perfect my meal appeared. Then as each dish arrived, I wanted to jump into each one... The specials were truly special -and the menu items were also amazing. Going against my norm, I actually asked one of my companions for a taste of her seafood risotto... I simply could not resist. So delicious!!
I must say - I ate too much to have the ability to dive into the dessert menu. Once again - - every selection was something I wanted... Well, maybe next time I'll do a dinner in reverse. Dessert first, THEN the rest!
I am so grateful to Frank and Brett who really knocked themselves out to make this happen. I am on cloud 9 in delirious joy from a most wonderful evening.
I have a feeling this is the beginning of a wonderful relationship of friends, food and Ocean 193!
As I like to say to people who ask me about a restaurant that I fully enjoy - "try the anything - it's delicious". - yes folks - you'll love...
Read moreNice view with average food. If you want a nice view, this is the place. Otherwise I wouldn’t recommend it. For a $120 bill, the service was seriously lacking. We’re not sure if we did something wrong or offended our waiter, as they were not refilling our waters, clearing our table, and in general they were neglecting us and providing bare minimum service. We had to stare at our waiter and waive at them to get them to refill our waters, while we watched them attentively refill all of the other tables’ waters.
The food was average, definitely not worth $120. At that price point, go to freeman’s. The lobster didn’t taste very fresh, didn’t have a lot of taste and flavor in general. Red snapper was coated in what appeared to be paprika. The food/cooking was average. risotto was very gravy-like/soupy.
Towards the end of our experience, after waiting probably 30 minutes for table to be cleared/or the possibility of our waiter asking if we wanted dessert or the check (which didn’t happen), we practically had to beg just for our waiter to clear our table, get us our check after staring at him, trying to get his attention to fill our waters, and in general just get SOME service.
At this price point, having to beg for service is unacceptable. I understand that this restaurant is new and people want to be generous in reviewing it well, but it deserves 3.5 stars at most. Not the 5 star reviews it appears as.
Again, we can only assume there was a misunderstanding because it seemed as if our waiter was purposefully neglecting us while they filled everyone else’s water, and seemed to be VERY attentive to everyone else but us. Seriously unacceptable for $120+ bill.
The average food would have been ok if the service made up for it. But it’s really a beautiful view with average food and mediocre service.
I hope the management can properly train their staff to provide a better experience to...
