My first time going to Bok Bok, and I honestly didn't even know it existed until I pulled out of the Rancheritos next to it the other night!
When I got my chicken the first time (Large order of bone in wings with house sauce), it smelled wonderful. I was a little worried because it was hard on the outside, and many wing places have fallen victim to overcooking, but Bok Bok's wings were perfectly cooked. Double fried, the outside was very crispy and flavorful while the inside was moist and steamy. It's been a long while since I audibly moaned when biting in to food.
SADLY they were out of the asian slaw, I LOVE asian slaw with fried foods 😢
So, I ended up getting butter rice and fries.
The butter rice was what I was expecting, buttered rice cooked with chicken stock. Not phenomenal but it goes alright with the chicken.
The fries are unlike any other fry I have ever had. The outside was very crunchy and crispy and it had some volume and texture to it (sort of like they put a very little amount of tempura on the outside), so it wasn't your typical flat sided fast food fry or steak fry. Very good fries. I wish I could make a fry this fly.
Very decent experience. Needless to say, and don't take this with offense Rancheritos it's not you it's me (and Bok Bok), I won't be visiting...
Read moreNot good, and I hate saying that about local restaurants. The wife got the chicken tenders with the house sauce. They were dry and jerky like. The side of slaw was really good. I got the wings, tried getting two different sauces because when the place has a variety of sauces you should be able to mix and match, they don't let you do that. In fact the guy taking orders was less than enthused to be there, not very accommodating about anything. The wings themselves weren't good, they were Luke warm, and the breading was out of control. I'm sure that's what characterizes them as Korean fried chicken, but the wings or the breading weren't hot. The sweet garlic sauce was way too overbearing with garlic (won't get that garlic taste out of my mouth for a while I'm guessing). We got the meals to eat in and quickly realized they must have forgotten to pay the heating bill, they had space heaters around some of the tables, but just weren't working. The ceiling was leaking as well. Bottom line, not good. I left one of my wings uneaten because it was just that off putting, and I never do that, wings are some of my favorite foods. Hate to say it, but...
Read moreI LOVE the chicken sandwich at Bok Bok! I love chicken sandwiches so I have tried a few different places and Bok Bok is the best! The chicken breast is big but tender and crispy on the outside. The sauce is super unique and is the perfect balance of sweet to the salty chicken. The fries are also some of the best I've ever had and they are consistent, which is rare as a lot of times even the best fries I've had at other places can be different ever time I go.
The staff is also super nice! One time I asked for no cabbage on the sandwich, the employee said that she could do that but she did no recommend it as it was an important part of the flavor of the sandwich and suggested that I reduce the amount but not take it off all together. I really appreciated that she cared about the flavor and the experience that I had!
One suggestion I would have is to make fry sauce or ketchup available for the fries! I know it is not always typical with Asian cuisine but I would love the fries even more with something to...
